tps adjustment help
I have searched through all of the previous threads about the tps and followed all of the tips (Thanks everyone) but I am still having voltage issues
with my tps. With the key on,, engine off. I am getting .5v but should be getting 1.2v+. wide open I am only getting 2.4volts. I adjusted the throtttle linkage to bring the voltage up to 1.2v but still only get 2.5 max wide open (and that is after I ovaled out the screwholes on the tps and adjusted it as much as I could. Can anyone point me in the right direction???? I am getting 4.99 volts to the end of the plug where it goes into the tps. This is getting a bit frustrating. Before I changed out the tps, I had a temp sensor go out. Replaced it, the OD Switch(burnedoutlight), and the tps. After that it would not drop into 3-4th with any authority. It used to set you back in your seat. Please help!!!

Have you checked for codes.
have you checked for trans codes on mine the check engine light does not come on for trans codes but if it is trowing codes it could put it in limp mode and totally change the way it is shifting. also where there codes reading before you change out the temp sensor.

Put the throttle linkage back where it was, you shouldn't have messed with it.
If you have the 5 volts going to the TPS but such a low output either the TPS is bad or more likely not installed correctly.

When you say it wasnt installed correctly, can you be more specific?? I had my tranny guy do the install, but he couldnt figure it out either. The old tps and the new tps both give the same reading.

Ok, maybe I'm ingnorant.. but could someone tell me the proper way to install the tps??? do you have to start 180 degress and spin it around??? or just put it in making sure the key is in the slot???? It shifts into od around 48-50mph instead of the previous 45mph and it is a very slight shift.. before there was no doubt you were in gear..

The TPS is keyed, I was thinking somehow it was reversed. Something isn't right at all but it's one of those ones that's hard to diagnose without seeing it. Unless the TPS is bad I always see the same output voltage at full throttle as the signal voltage (5V or so)
48-50 is a good speed for lockup.
When my truck was new I had the PCM reflashed so OD doesn't lockup until 55 mph.
Saves on the tranny.
Here's a couple of recalls that don't involve the TPS but describe how things should be with it. Maybe it will help.

one more question.... Will having a code on the brake system have any bearing on the tps/shifting problem??? I found a code 9--- high voltage on the speed sensor.. Thanks again for all of the help...

Thanks, My mechanic still hasnt solved the tps problem. He thinks the problem is in the plug that goes into the tps. so He's going to rebuild it and try that. He said that he gets the correct voltage by wiggling the plug, so we will see.

Beware of the connectors on the other end of the TPS wires at the PCM when trouble shooting. The female connectors are flimsy and easily expanded with a voltmeter probe causing a poor connection.
A friend of mines truck was down for over a month after he probed around the PCM connector trying to track down a non working cruise control. Lost charging, auto tranny shifting and much of the electronics bit by bit. The more he probed the worse things got. He didn't feel like he was enlarging the connectors, was one of the last places he ever thought of looking. Even bought an expensive new PCM that didn't help.
