Torque Plates? Do they work?
Hey guys I tried to ask this on another thread but I think I put the wrong topic and didn't get the answers I need so here goes again.
I have been looking at the TST web site an they claim I can add as much power as the drive train can hold just by installing a torque plate. Is this true? I have a 98 2500 12V auto w/ a K&N filter kit and 4" turbo back system. I have an HX40 but have not installed it yet and may not if I can use the torque plate to max the power.
Are there any down falls to the plates, and are any manufactures better than another or is it just pricing?
Thanks
Guy

They work great. Put a #10 TST plate in even though it isn't recommended and your beast will turn into a sports car.
It will even get better mileage if you can keep your foot out of it. Your trans won't like the new power but with the stock tranny it's just a matter of time anyway...
I use TST plates because I trust them. I've run into a few "cheap" ones that were made of softer steel and were riveted together rather than one piece.

Boy do they ... big time. hp per $, a great value.
Pick your poision & call to see which ones good for your tranny. Here's a source:

I have 170000 on my 96. 400 HP # 800 torque b&d injectors. Pump work. All mods were done 130,000 miles ago. You dont need to buy any parts your pump can be worked to deliver fuel up to 3800 rpm. mine does and its been doing it
since 98 before any cam plates or governer spring plates were available. But you have to respect that power. ( tore my imput shaft in half ) .AS far as oil consumption, a quart every 3000 is not bad, you can bring it down to less than a half quart by using two quarts of Lucas Oil treatment per change.
Bad news is the locating pin on your timeing cover can work its out , and cause the timeing cover assembly to break. Im not sure but I think the 97 is a canidate for this problem.there is a $100 fix if you do it before it breaks.
Next Your block may be one of blocks prone to cracking between the freeze out plugs .( the dreaded #53 block issue ) Look it up !.
My CTD has cost me plenty . and now I cant even sell it ( leaking coolant )
But Im cumming back for more. New one one the way!
