Timing Cover Bolts
I was working on my KDP fix this afternoon. When I got to the shop, the bolts which had been neatly lined up in order clockwise from the top had been kicked and mixed up. I knew that I shouldhaetapedthemon a strip, oh well.
So, there are 4 types of bolts. Short, long, the two that hold the speed sensor, and 1 bolt that is long and has a thick washer on it. I know where everything goes except for the long bolt with the thick washer.
I rememer seeing a picture posted here where a guyhad drawn the timing cover ona piece of card board and laed the bolts out on the card board. I searched but no luck.
I would love it if someone could tell methe location ofthat bolt, or point me to the picture.
Thanks

Not sure if this helps but according to my Cummins Parts catalog for th B9, I have a diagram of the front gear cover, it shows a m8 X 1.25 X 60mm long bolt just below and slightly to the right (drivers side) of the crank seal.
It only calls for one bolt in the 60mm length. It also shows what looks like a small spacer going over it and that is called "Belt retainer". But, like I said, it looks like a small spacer of some sorts. The spacer may not be used as this is a generic applications diagram/book put out by Cummins.
There is another longer bolt, but it is a double threaded bolt for bolting down the cover AND attatching something else to it. So for a standard bolt, the 60mm one is the longest in my diagram. Hope my description makes sense. KD

Would you describe the spacer as a 3/8 to 1/2" tall, 1/2" diameter plug with a 5/8" diameter washer on top?
The locationjusttotheright of the crank sealmakes sense fora"belt retainer" as this would be close in location to the belt.
I will take as much info as you guys can comeup with, as I want to put this baby back togehter right. One bolt can make a world of diffrernce!
Keep it coming

That was Box5 who posted the picture of a cardboard bolt jig. That's always a good idea when removing many fasteners of varying types. I know it sure helped me.

That's the pic!
Itis hard to tell bolt length as box 5 has the bolts through the cardboard, however, that headis the head in question. From the drawing it looks like it is the first hole to the right of the crank seal.
Thanks you guys!this wont be the last time you save my behind!

Based on the cardboard pic and my sketch in the Cummins book (and your description), that is the spacer and yes just to the 5 O clock position of the crank if facing the engine from the front of the truck. (just to the drivers side of the crank)KD

Bingo!
Thanks guys!
Got the job done today, and as I put the engine damper on I could see how it interacts with the belt.
I appreciate the help!
Time to edit the sig!
