Smoke

This is my 1st Diesel engine. It has 15000 miles on it now. Everytime I step on the gas I get a lot of smoke out the tail pipe. The engine is warm, around 180 - 200. I can be going at speed and try to pass someone, or just on the on ramp to the intersate, same thing. I just give it enought to kick down the transmission 1 gear for the required power. Is this normal for a diesel engine? Truck goes in thursday for the 15000 mile service, anything I need them to check when it is in the shop?

Mine smokes when i punch it in traffic but not alot, i'll get a few puffs of black coming out of the tail pipe. At night if i do it you can definately see a haze in other cars headlights. Also, my truck it pretty much stock. Your truck is probably ok but by the mileage i gather yours is a 3rd Gen and i don't know much about the newer ones since i don't own one.

The newer electronic engines are not supposed to smoke at all. Whatever is causing the smoke should be covered under warranty.

I've heard that to that third gens aren't supposed to smoke stock. Maybe something to look into. Mine smokes alot to, but I'm pretty sure I know why. (see sig)

yes the 3rd gens will smoke a little even stock some more than others. I know when my truck was completly stock it put out a big cloud once like I had my bully dog on, I thought it was cool. If your fuel mileage is ok and the truck is still running fine I think your fine. But If you are worried have the dealer look for a boost leak or change your air filter. 15,000 miles I'd say you are do for one.
