rollstarting

why cant i roll start my 95 5spd ctd? ignition on, 2nd or 3rd gear...just coasts to a stop. i do have an electronic imobilizer requiring a chip to b plugged into a module before it can start even with a key, and that is plugged in as well but it wont even try to start. and ideas/suggestions? would like the option of roll starting cause im in remote places a lot and in case the batteries/ starter ever fail....

To do this you must first turn the key on and then pull the plunger up on the fuel shut-off solenoid. If you are trying to start it with a dead battery, you'll have to tie the plunger up. The pull-in section of the solenoid is activated by the starter circuit.

Pull it off and clean/lubricate/replace the rubber boot, common. I kind of like the manual shutoff idea as well though.
