Ride rite compressor/gauge placement?

Alright Ive done a search and cant find alot of info. I got the kit with the single gauge but dual control so I can level each side, and its a little big. I think Im going to put it under the center cup holders/ashtray at the bottom center of the dash. Any thoughts on a better place?
Also I read alot of guys are putting the compressor under the passenger seat. I was going to mount it on the frame by the 1/2 gallon air tank somewhere. Is it really that hard on it that it needs to be inside the cab? How loud is it, would it drive you crazy under the seat (oh I also got the heavy duty compressor if that matters on noise level)? I really dont want to pull carpet and fish lines, so Im leaning towards mounting it underneath the bed somewhere. Thanks for any info, Ryan.

What kind of compressor is included with the kit?

I'm going through a similar install myself right now. If I remember right, the Air Zeniths are resistant to the elements, and can be mounted outside. The Viair compressors have to be protected from the elements. These are 2 of the most popular compressor choices, and I'm not sure about the others.

As for mounting the gauge and switches, I don't know. I think the cleanest thing to do would be to take the gauge out of the bracket they send you, and mount it in a regular aftermarket gauge pod that fits our trucks exactly. Then, you would have to find another spot to mount the switches, but that could probably be done fairly easily.

For me, all the available gauge spots were taken, so I opted for Dakota Digital's digital type gauge. I think I'm going to mount it at the front of the cup holders, kind of to the left and forward of the shifter.

I'd like to see pictures of what you come up with!

No, the compressor doesn't need to be mounted inside the cab. I just used hose clamps to mount mine in a random spot under the hood. I've got a friend with it under the seat. It's loud either way, but the 10 seconds max I'd use it means I'd put it in the most convenient spot.

I had other things to mount in my cab (brake controller, 2 way radio, cell booster, quadzilla monitor), so I removed the whole cup holder unit and built an aluminum plate to fit. Good luck with the install.

Dupio, do you have any pics? I'd like to see your set up. I'm looking to install an air bag set up in the near future and had planned on putting the gauge below the heat controls.

I mounted my gauge where the cigarette lighter used to be and put the control switch near my left knee above the e-brake release. I didn't use the provided bezel at all. I did mount my compressor in the truck - under the front passenger seat. I shaved a little of the seat brace out so that the seat could be moved all of the way up without people kicking the compressor and still being able to keep the jack.

I have my firestone compressor mounted on a bracket that comes up off the exhaust manifold heat sheild nuts. It has been that way for 2 years with no problems. I have my switchs mounted on the panel underneth the steering wheel. Sorry no pics it will be about a month before I get back home.

I put gauge in front of the cup holders on the floor, I just cut out a spot above them. The compressor is mounted in my toolbox. The whole thing was a pain but it looks good.
To be honest the compressor for the air bags is not worth it. I never use it and I tow at least 75% of the time. Put 20 PSI in them and that is all you need. The compressor is the biggest waste of money that I have spent on my truck, and as soon as I get a chance it is comming off.

I had mine on the skid plate for the transfer case, it lasted a year there, then died..... now I have a pair of them mounted inside my aluminum tool box in the bed of the truck, out of site, out of the elements, and not noisy in the cab or under the hot hood.

My compressor has been mounted up under the hood for the last four years. This summer I had to replace the crappy fuse holder it came with but the comp. still works fine.

Yep thanks for the idea, it was pretty clear once I got under the truck that was where it was going. Also mounted the 1/2 gallon air tank beside it. The only thing Im not real pleased with is where I mounted the gauge, that thing is huge and they only really give you one option for mounting it. But hey I can move it later when I figure out a better spot.
Overall the kit is awesome, easy install simple directions. Took me 4 hours to do everything but I am slow. I will post some pics and do a write up in a few days, thanks guys.
