Question bout crazy acting gauge.

Today I drove my truck after it had sat for about a week. Short trip to wally world. On the way home the temp gauge shot up and gauge alarm went off. I pulled of the road and before I could get stop the gauge drop down to normal. I got out and pop hood to see if I could tell if anything was wrong and could not. Got back in and got onto road when I got to speed it did it again. I was home in 5-10 minutes and gauge kept it up.

Any ideas..Thanks
