I think it looks pretty good. Did the bottom pod hit the top of the dash before you removed the material between the pods? Or did the upper one cover the screw hole for the handle? Just curious what exactly the problem was with using one piece.

it was a tighter fit at the bottom against the dash. i didnt have to cut it out but i didnt want the pod resting against the dash, just the way it looked....

i am also going to get some color matched smaller push rivets when i have the time to go out. i used the ones in the pic because that was all i had laying around. other than that i am very happy w/ it.

when its time to add more guages down the road i plan on adding two more pods to the outside of theses and fiberglassing it all into one piece

Well I think I am convinced to go this route now. I would really like to keep the handle.

Thanks for the write up and pics!

Looks good...I agree with the push rivets though. You should check out Genos Garage....they sell factory matched interior spray paint. You could spray paint them and have an exact match

i think you may need more than double sided tape. you can find plastic push rivetes at almost any parts store and you may even be able to order them from autometer as well. all you do is drill a small hole through both surfaces and push the rivet in by hand, its that simple. i know they have color matching rivets, i have seen them before.

I know I'm bringing back an old topic, but I've got a question for you. Could you just take the Autometer pod and cut it on the top just like you did but let the bottom go all the way down so that it looks more like one piece? Or did it not quite work out that way. I think it looks great like you have it, but I think it would look that much better if it went all the way down so that there wasn't any seperation lines in it at the bottom.

i dont think that would work because autometer positioned the gauges up higher away from the dash, so it would cover one of the bolt holes and part of the handle.

you could always mount them on like i have done and then lay fiberglass over the whole thing to make it seemless. you honestly dont notice the seems the way it is now or at least i dont anyway. when you cut them apart you just have to lay them out on the pillar and make the final cut edges match up so the seems arent open. and im sure it would look better w/ color matching push rivets, but i dont mind it now because the black actually goes w/ the trim around the windshield and door and realy doesnt look bad to me.

hoggbreath, yes but i cut them out from the autometer full length pillar pod to match the contour of the stock pillar.

Good info. I was wondering if they were positioned higher or not. Wouldn't it be great if Autometer or some other pod company made a dual pod that bolts to the factory one like an Edge Attitude pod or a Quad Commander pod? They would make a killin' selling them.

Wait a minute..... I see what you did now. That is actually 2 seperate pieces, not just a section cut from the Autometer pod. It's two sections cut from it correct? Now it's all coming together!

yes, it is two sections cut from it. first i cut out the complete dual pod section in one piece. and you could get that to work by itself but it would be against the dash pretty tight. so then i cut out the material inbetween the pods and made the cut edges match up so it looks like one piece. it really is hard to tell even up close.
