P0121

Problem with my brothers 2001, 6 speed.

Driving along, loaded or unloaded makes no difference, the truck just stops accelerating. 5-10 seconds later you push the accelerator and off you go. It has happened to me, and I push in the clutch and it idles down to 1500 rpm, so it doesn't die completely.

Getting a P0121 code. Took it to the shop where the reader said it was APPS and idle validation code. I tried the APPS reset procedure and it didn't change anything, still same symptoms.

I have been told it needs a new APPS or it could be the injector pump or it could be the lift pump. Every mechanic has told me something different.

Has anyone had this problem? APPS and injector pumps are pretty pricey. I would like to get some information before I let a dealership start experimenting with new parts.

Mine was doing the same thing, and it was the power control module. Replaced the PCM and haven't had a problem since.

I would start looking on e-bay for an apps. I got one for $25 , just got lucky.

So are you a KU or K-State fan? State for me, since I graduated from there. Emporia native too.

josntme,
Who diagnosed the PCM problem? Is the PCM something I can replace myself and how expensive was it?

Copenhagenjunkie,
Been looking on ebay, nothing for the 2001 though. Salvage yards just laughed when I asked about APPS.

Gotta be a K-state fan at my house, the wifes a graduate from there also, can't root for the Jayhawks and live together. I got my BS from Pitt State and MS from Emporia State, guess we're a house divided!

When I was having my transmission upgrade by the DTT shop, I mentioned this problem (A1 Transmission in Kerrville, Tx). He hooked up the code reader and it was the PCM. It was around $655.00 from the Dodge dealer. Labor was $163 at this shop. I would imagine Dodge labor is more.

He did have trouble getting the Dodge people to flash the PCM with the latest firmware (or whatever you call it).

I've had no problems since the replacement.

Its probably something that needs to be installed by the dealer since they are the only ones that can program it with the latest upgrade. No one else can program it because ( as I understand it) its proprietary software.

You can install the ECM/PCM yourself and then take the truck to the dealer and have them do the reflash.....you will save some labour that way.
