I won't use anything but the reccomended SynTorque. It is expensive, but so is the truck... Long term the Valvoline won't be good for the synchros.

Syntorq, not Syntech. I've also heard, and may change to, Amsoil for the NV4500 tranny https://www.amsoil.com/StoreFront/mtg.aspx . Supposed to be realy good and less exspensive.

if you do use the amsoil let us know how it runs. I know the syntorq is the only aproved oil for the 4500. I think i heard once something about some kind of odd syncros the 4500 uses?

Amsoil works in the nv4500 I have had it in for about 30,000 miles. The reason for speacial oil is, the syncros are made of brass or that is what my understanding is. Which is why a GL4 oil is recomended. If you use the wrong oil it will deteriate the brass syncros.

i am told the wrong oil also eats the rear oil seal up also. i bought my oil at dodge i think it was 15 to 17 bucks a quart. cheap compared to the work i just went thru changing trans because of rear seal leak.

So this Vavaline synthetic 90wt is not a good idea??
When my 5th blew, it left behind some chuncks of metal and mybe little shavings that are hard to find. I tried to wipe out as much as i could with a rag and magnet, but i want to do a second change.
Could i run this Vavaline for like 100mile or some then flush it and then use the good stuff, or will that little bit of driving hurt it?? Thanks for the help- Chris.

I run valvoline for now

due to a slow leaking gasket. I have had no issues whatsoever with it at all.. works good

You can try the chevy dealer as a cheaper source of the syntorque fluid, they used the same tranny.

I ran amsoil for 122K no probs. Syntorq is a rip off. I replaced the seal you are referring too when i put amsoil in.

My feeling is anyone who runs anything other than Syntorq is just plain foolish, trying to save a dime on an expensive transmission. Syntorq is great stuff, the tranny was designed around it.
You can buy Syntorq by the gallon for $54 here http://www.standardtransmission.com/dodge.html
