Not another KDP thread!?!?!?
Not another KDP thread!?!?!?
My friend recently bought a wrecked '99 dually. Since the entire nose was off the truck anyway, I thought it would be a great time to do the research about the KDP and take care of it. The truck only has 84,000 miles, but the job would be quite simple now. The research I found showed conflicting info. Some said the KDP was taken care of in '98, and some (like TSTs instructions on their web site), showed the repair being done to 24 valves. With the conflicting info, we decided better safe than sorry, so I pulled the cover and found that the dowel pin area was raised away from the cover bolt, not on the same plane as all of the photos I have seen. This gave me the impression that maybe the extra material was meant to retain the pin. I decided to make up a special "s" bend tab to hold the pin, "just in case". It went on slick, the whole job took well under an hour, including trimming the washer into the tab, and lots of BS'ing back and forth between us. Basically I was doing the work, and my friend was doing his best to distract me.
The only thing I would like to know is...was the KDP an issue with this truck, or did I do work I didn't have to do? (not that it matters...we can sleep a little better knowing IF there was a problem, its taken care of). Now I just have to do my poor 260K mile '96...
