bought a new pump for the truck, the new pump has an enclosed impeller, as the old one the impeller is open. does this matter? Also what causes a pump to go out? there are no weep holes on the old one, and there is a weep hole on the new one. the old one is turning fine it just leaks from the bottom.

my pump was leaking from the bottom like you said. It turned out it was just the seal, a $2 part. I couldn't find one anywhere though and I needed to get my truck back together asap. I just bought a whole new water pump. Like you mention my old one was like yours and the new one was like you mentioned as well. I was told the replacement one was like that because it is able to push more water. Basically flows better/better design. Turns out they must be right, the truck runs cooler after replacing the water pump.

 

Whats strange is some of them have the cap, some dont.

What awesome is the same pump that fits my '90, also fits my 6.7! They never changed em....
