new truck?

So long story short, I'm on my third psd. I wanted a dodge last time around but didn't have the funds to get an 03' and up.

I went and drove an 03' 2500, 4x4, quad cab, auto with 51000 miles. Everything looks to be in good shape and drive good. What is it that I need to look at and for on this thing before I buy it? I have always had fords and know my way around them, just don't know about the dodge.

Also, the H.O. didn't start until 04' right? Thanks, in advance.

Chris.

you can get an HO in 03, look on the drivers side of the engine, at the valve cover cover, it has a sticker on it that has all the info. 250 is SO

some of the 03 have the 47re too tho its show it on the glove compartment sticker, depends on the build date i think after june or july is when the 48re started going in.
and there is three different engines for the 03 too the 235(cali) 245(SO) and the 305(HO), its on the side of the engine block as others have said.

Trucks build after 1/1/03 with the HO and auto had the 48re, mine came in in mid March of 03, and the Cali and the SO trucks had the 47re the remainder of the 03 model year as well as I remember. Best place to look to see what motor truck has as another said is on vale cover drivers side.

I found a NICE 03, with the H.O. As my luck goes, called the dealer on Saturday about lunch to get all the carfax info and someone was doing the papers on it, I had just drove it on Thursday. I guess I'll hunt down another.

I found a low miles 01', but I sure do like the newer front end. Thanks for the info guys, I have been searching on here too, some pretty good info.
