New Engine For Dodge in 2006
I really doubt this is true, but one of my buddies told me a Catapillar mechanic told him that Cummins was going to go to Ford, and Dodge would be getting a catapillar engine sometime in 2006.

That will never happen. Especially since the contract runs until 2007. I don't know where some people come up with this stuff. It's kind of funny though

I have heard a lot of good things about CAT engines but can't imagine DC dumping Cummins for CAT. The Cummins/DC contract is thru 2007 and if they were to change it would be more likely a Mecerdes Benz diesel engine to keep it in the family.
As far as Ford, they have a huge investment in Navistar and the 6.0. I can not see then walking away from that either. Who knows? After the 6 litre Ford may want to go a new direction. Take a look at some of the ford fourms to see all the problems with it. I bet ford would love to put a Cummins in a Superduty.
I am not sure if I could bring myself to drive a Ford even with the Cummins engine.
Guess I will stick to driving my 03 Cummins.

Curious to know which CAT engine they wanna stuff in there. 3176??
My sources told me that Isuzu is going to supply engines for Nissan, Nissan is going to build a hybrid diesel/electric/steam/solar for the Ford Trucks, Navistar is going to supply engines for the Dodge trucks and Cummins is going to sit back and laugh......all the while painting their engines yellow to copy cat....

Yeah, I cant see DC going to the kitty cat. If there will be an engine change in the 07 year. I would almost bet that it is going to be a MB (more than likely), or a Detroit. Think about it, DC now owns, Detroit, MB, Freightliner, Western Star, etc. They are already weeding out the competition in there class 8's. No Cummins option available in the 8's, only the Detroit Series 60, MB 12ltr, or the C15 CAT.
No one knows for sure right now, and I bet it wont be for a couple of years.

Cummins and DC's contract is writen until 2007 because that's when the next round of stiffer EPA regs are suposed to hit the Light Truck market. If Cummins can't meet the new regs then I would say DC might go else where. : I've heard from good sources though that Cummins has the new regs wipped even without EGR on the motors, I've also heard to look for a bigger displacement I-6 from Cummins for the Ram in the near future. 8)

Not in my view ... Cummins might be why the late model trucks are selling so well, but Dodge has been making solid, dependable & powerful vehicles for many moons. The old 426 Hemi's, 440 Magnums and bulletproof 318 LA blocks that were in the older trucks / cars were making headlines long before Cummins came into view.
I love the Cummins but am a diehard Mopar man. Give me an old Powerwagon with a Black and Decker fish pump motor and I will be ;D ;D ;D (I'm sure glad that they put the Dodge /Cummins combo together, though).

Re:New Engine For Dodge in 2006
I would like to see a bigger Cummins I6 in the Dodge truck as well. I am sure we all will take as much HO and torque as they want to give us. As far a Cummins making the Dodge truck what it is, well, I think that is a bit of a stretch.
I have owned 5 Dodge trucks over the past 15 years and they all have been rock solid. Most of them gas motors and my last 2 being the CTD. Much better than the GM's the wife was driving before her Durango.
The old 318 was one of the best small block motors on the planet. I have put over 500k on the 318 motors with no failures on any kind. Truly sad to see it go away in favor of the 4.7. The 4.7 is a good motor and powers the Durango well.
Want to talk about a truck, my uncle had an old 75 Dodge D100 with the old slant 6 that you could not kill. After 900k, 5 trannies, several paint jobs the truck still ran pretty good. The motor only had tune ups and oil changes. Not sure how you get more bullet proor than that.
