Exclamation Need Help with Clearance Lights Please....

Hey guys,
I read up on some forums here lately about installing clearance lights on trucks.
I have an 06 CTD without the lights. i went to the dealership today to see how much they would charge me to have them put on. The service manager told me that it was 350.00 labor since they have to remove the headliner and a bunch of stuff.
I went ahead and bought the light kit since it was the only one they had in stock.
I have been throwing around to install the lights myself, but every time i think about it, i think of how new and expensive my truck is.
The questions i have is:
- Should I install the lights myself?
- If I was to do the surgery, is there any sites or can some of you help me find some literature with pics on how to do it right? I read the instructions, and I have to say that is the worst set of instructions I have ever seen ! Ive seen better instructions in public bathroom stalls!
- Does the template work really well on my truck? Any tips?

Any info on this subject will help tramendously! I get sick at my stomach every time I think of drilling 7/8 inch holes in the roof of my new truck.

Thanks Guys!!

This should do it. I've done the install on my own truck. It's really easy. The hardest part is drilling the holes in the roof. It'll will make you sick . Don't worry, with patience it can be done by anyone. The dealer is charging too much.

ok, Im going to try to accomplish it today. I might be asking you guys some questions along the way.
Actually here is a good question before I start:
I opened the kit to check and see if everything is there, and noticed that the lights have the screws on each side, which is different than I have seen on factory lights which is one in the front and one in the back.
What is up with that? Is these lights as good as the factory? Im thinking they might have a better chance of leaking. Please let me know.

I did the install on mine, not hard at all. I had trouble getting the template lined up but after lots of measuring and double measuring, I pulled out the drill and did the deed I had dull bits and all kinds of bad luck the holes looked terrible but you know, the good thing was the lights went on fine, and once screwed down there is a good seal to the truck. On my days off I manage an automatic car wash, so my truck gets washed with about 1200 lbs of pressure very often and have not seen a leak yet. Like all the posts above, just take your time and it'll all be good. You'll be glad you saved yourself $300 Good luck, and keep barf bag close when drilling first hole so you don't get puke on your new truck

I have done the worst part. Now I am taking a break to allow my stomach to recoupe.
Actually, i measured many times and used a hole saw to make my holes, and it turned out perfect (actually way better than expected, looks like factory). I do heating and air for a living and we have special metal working tools for duct work. i used a hole lip tool to make an inward lip on the 7/8 hole so the wires wont rub on cut metal. I also put touch up paint on the cut surfaces to reduce rust.
I also found to use a 15/32 drill bit on the screw holes for the plastic inserts. That way they fit very tight and wont turn on you.
After my little lunch, i will be installing the wiring and the lights. Ill let you know (and hopefully post a pic) when its done. Give me about an hour and a half.
