Are there really that many idiots out there that truly believe that when they tell you their CTD, PSD, DMax gets 30 MPG that you honestly believe that?

I can't even begin to count how many times I've had guys tell me that their trucks get in the high 20's/low 30's and when pulling they get low/mid 20's. What a bunch of yahoos.

Are these guys just flat out lying or what? I was just talking to the cable installer guy that has seven CTD's in his fleet and he just stated that his '04 CTD get's 33 MPG. It was all I could do to keep from laughing. If he wasn't installing new service at my house I might would have called him on it

Have any of you run into guys that pull this kind of bunk?

I don't know...sometimes I think they actually believe this or they are simply repeating what they heard. I know that the best I have seen out of my 12 valve was 21 hwy and 16 towing.

I haven't been able to duplicate those numbers, I chalk it up to a light foot and a good tail wind that 1 time I think average numbers hover around 18 hwy 14 towing which I feel is really quite good considering the weight I haul with this thing.

If I go over 70 mph it drops off dramatically....kinda like driving a brick with wheels

I think that many of these claims are from people with chips who look at their overhead computers, rendered inaccurate by the chips.

Haha, I know a lot of people who try to tell me "I don't have to hand calulate, the overhead does it for me!" They also don't believe that if you put any size tire bigger than what the speedo is made for, it'll be off a couple miles. Heck my old f150 was off, with the stock tires!

i have seen mine get 99.99 mpg! no kidding. if i am going downhill fast and take my foot off the gas at the same time hitting the reset on the overhead, it will say 99.99mpg. this thing is flat awesome. it gets better mileage than any hybrid, motor scooter, or moped. and it can haul 10k lbs with ease. it doesnt get any better than this. i love idiots

but in reality the best hiway is 21, in town 16, and towing 14.

I did a few mid 20s runs when my truck was near stock (exhaust, intake, VA box). Now I see about an average of 16-18hwy and 12-14 towing... Still not bad for the weight and 500+hp at the wheels!!

but I got about 12 mpg on my trip this past weekend pulling a 7k lbs trailer and a 5k lbs truck threw the hill country in texas. i dont see the mileage even empty that alot of people see. and I dont run my truck hard at all!

Put some injectors in and really watch the overhead climb!!! Stock mine was pretty accurate, with VA it was off by 1.5mpg, with small injectors now it reads high 'bout 3mpg!

Overhead Average: 23.1mpg
Hand Calc Average: 20.1mpg (I do mostly highway driving).

I drive 60 on the highway and I get high 21's or mid 22's, depending on the day (handcalc). My OH reads from 26-27+. I did try doing 55 for a couple of weeks to see if my HC mileage went up. Guess what? It didn't make any difference whether I went 55 or 60. Needless to say, I have a very light foot and long stretches of highway w/cruise.

33 MPG? Where do I sign up to visit the twilight zone?

Canadians can correctly brag about making high 20's just because they can refer to IMPERIAL gallons.
30+???, nope.... Not at highway speed anyway...
My old '81 Toyota HiLux 4cyl diesel would deliver 35mpg at 70mph without a headwind.

I've always wondered just what my CTD could deliver if I drove the flat Interstate at 46MPH (just high enough to get the TC to "lock"). Wind drag would be negligible and the turbo boost would hardly ever come off of zero.
I'll never do it because I don't have the patience to poke along so slow on Texas Interstates... Even at 55mph would get me run over!

Once and only once did I even come close to that...

I had a 2000 2500 quad Cab 4x4 with the only modification being it was straight piped and on a trip from Lethbridge,AB to Vancouver,BC on Hwy 3 (nothing but mountains, hills, corners and curves) i got 29MPG Imperial which is the equivalent of 24 US MPG- runnning empty, just our suitcase and a small nylon tent. The rest of the time it was more like 20-21 Imperial MPG.

So over 30 US MPG is unrealistic.
