Muffler or Resonator

My truck is straight piped, want to make it less noise what would be the best, putting in aftermarket muffler of resonator, or any other suggestions.

Anything you put in will make less noise than a straight pipe. If you want to take the edge off, a resonator will do that. A muffler like a Hushpower or Donaldson will be quieter still. You can run both if you want even less noise.

I have the Magnaflow 12773 and it's suprising quiet. I feel upgrading to a larger tail pipe would have achieved the tone I was after. I've always told myself, when the Magnaflow rust out I'll be replacing it with a 4" piece of exhaust tubing.

My 5" exhaust runs into a Magnaflow 5" muffler and into 6" stacks.....nice deep tone. Completely satisfied with it.

Hey jhenson, where in central Texas are you? I'm in Round Rock.

For the muffler thing, I use to have this on my truck. It's only about a foot long and is sorta like a glasspack. It took the edge off but still had a nice sound. Oh and the best part, it was cheep!

Installed my magnaflow muffler today and it did reduce the noise a lot, especially inside the cab.

Mine had an AEROTURBINE 4040 muffler when purchased. Murderous drone. Had it moved forward along the pipe and had muffler installed in OEM position. (In signature). Single exhaust on big blocks in the 1960's and 70's usually ran this same combo, but with resonator to the rear. Truck is now about as quiet as stock (important to me), but with better performance and a very nice sound.

put the cat back in and your problem will be solved. no drone and sounds good
the cat takes the raspy sound out and make it a nice deep tone and the best added benefit is no drone.
