Loss of RPM

We have a '92 12 valve automatic trans. 2 w/d. we are cruising down the road at 65 mph and the RPM drops to idle. Let off the accelerator and push it back down and she will pick right back up and go.....for a while and then do it again.

Couldn't find any search words that would give me a clue.

Any idea's???

thanks,
Ken

I second this first hand.

I have run with fuel filter plugging and actually felt, in gasser terms " a cylinder cutting out", when I pushed it to hard up a hill.

For the cost of a fuel filter, it is an easy fix/try.

What is your fuel pressure when this happens?

Could be your lift pump or the screen in the tank that is plugging off.

To do further diag you will need fuel pressure readings when it happens. If your fuel pressure is low when this happens, then you are gonna have to see if you are going into a vacuum on the lift side of the pump. If you are going into a vacuum then you gonna have to inspect the screen in the tank. I would also inspect the fuel lines to and from the lift pump. With the age of the vehicle the easiest way to inspect the rubber part of the fuel lines would be to just replace them (LOL).

Sorry to be long winded. Hope this information helps.
