Question Looking for fender flares

Please help out a new guy,

Looking for a set of aftermarket flares for my 04.5 2500 4X4. I converted a set of H2 wheels (used my verticle mill) and would like to cover the tire. Something that looks factory and provides about 1 & 1/2 inch coverage.

I had the bed and rockers covered with armorthane and would cover the falres to match before instal.

Thanks in advance!

Allen

P.S. thinking about an exhaust, 5" or just MEP from Geno's - would like a air box and a "chip" box but ???? hate to do it to a new truck and void anything.

MPG so far: With 1000 miles - 9.5 mpg towing 7000+ at approx 80 mph - 15.8 - 16.4 city/hwy combo all hand calc.

USAF Active Duty in Wyoming -- 2004.5 2500, 4X4, 6sp, 3.73, H2 wheels, 315s, armorthane bed and rockers, catch-all liners, 304ss step bars (wife is 5'2"), other do-dads

I like the way the Bushwacker pocket styles look. They are MEAN! Wish they made a pocket style for 2nd gens...

You have a few options, Bushwacker makes a few different models, I've never used these so I don't know much about them; they do look good. I've had Xenon flares on my last truck, they look great, excellent tire coverage, installation is a bit involved (prep work for installation) and they are kind of pricey in comparison to the other name brands. I installed EGR flares on another old truck of mine and was very pleased over all, very easy installation (no drilling), good tire coverage and not too pricey ($250 for a pair of four for a Toyota Tacoma). I think www.truckaddons.com probably carries all three of these brands, if not check out 4wheelparts wholesalers (I think their site is www.4wheelparts.com); they have done very well by me.

All,
Thanks, I will check them out!

charcoal600,
I see you are from Laramie, I am in Cheyenne. I hear a bunch about MPG folks are getting but wonder what someone at our elevation and hilly road conditions gets. Also would help if they drove like I do (not taking it easy and about 80 on the hwy). How good (or bad) is your 2004.5 doing?

Thanks once again
Allen

Blown32, I typically get around 14 to 15 mpg around town (16 mpg on rare occasions), on the highway I have had mileage as high as 21 mpg (that's cruising down to Fort Collins on 287 with the cruise set on 66mph, there are too many police on that road to speed). Cruising at 75 on I-25 or I-80 I usually see around 17 to 19.5 mpg, unless I'm cruising up the pass on I-80, then mileage drops to around 16 mpg. I've found that my overhead consistently reads 1 mpg under hand calculations. I'm much less aggressive with the diesel than I was with any of my gas rigs, I find I can still get along just as well without flooring it all the time (on all my gas rigs that was common practice).
Do you have any pics of your rig, sounds pretty cool, I'd definently like to see it, maybe get some ideas for modifying my own rig.

I will take some photos and post as soon as I get a chance. According to my overhead, I get better around Cheyenne that I do on I25/I80. Hopefully my mpg goes up to what you are getting as I put some more miles on her. It looks like you are into other auto stuff as well, Coy's Swap Meet is this Saterday at Bandermier speedway. Lots of performance parts, some stock, and 4x4 parts as well.

Have a great day

I think mine are Bushwackers. The body shop that installed and painted them just called them the OEM flare. I'm really happy with them. Here are some pics:

Also, it looks like Dodge is putting some type of flare on 2005 models. You might want to look into them. I think the ones I saw were on a new Ramcharger and they looked really good.

As for fuel mileage, in the Sierras at 7K feet, I got 16 mpg pulling my boat in/out of the lake, going up steep grades, stop and go driving, etc. I get 12 mpg unloaded at sea level. Go figure.

I went with the Bushwacker Extend-A-Fender flares painted to match. I have had them on almost a year now. I figured they would get brittle and crack during their first winter, but they are holding up great and still look good. Pics in my gallery.

AK RAM,

Where did you get the BHAF and what did it run ya? Are you happy with it? Why did you take the AFE off?

Thanks

The BHAF is a Donaldson Radial Seal air cleaner, part number G110119. It runs about $110 and comes with the Donaldson filter. Replacement filters are around $30. You have to make your own IAT sensor mount and procure a couple of rubber elbows, reducer, etc., to plumb it in to the turbo for a total of about $175, give or take. Absolutely love it.

On the AFE, I apparently got a bum filter element from the factory that produced really high silicone levels during oil analysis. While waiting for AFE to make good, I installed the BHAF. AFE finally sent me a new filter, but I'm not switching back now.

Don't forget to check out Warn Fender flares. They have 3M tape and fit real nice. They have two widths...Thinline which are about 1" and another (I forget the name) that are 2.5". I am real happy with my Thinline's...I only needed a little width and protection of the inner lip of the fender...paint was getting killed!
