KSB-1 Review

Well, thanks to a good friend of mine, I now have a KSB-1 on my truck. This thing is freaking insane. Even with my 275's and my comp on 2x2 it spools like mad. On 5x5 it's an animal. I dynoed 371hp with the combo in my sig. Those 275's make a ton of power. Between tapping the pump wire, VB, and turbo, I gained 111hp from my last dyno. This turbo is a great turbo. I went from a fast spooling HY35 to this and I can't really tell a difference in spool up. The top end is insane. This turbo is great for the 400-450hp under crowd. It's running so great I'm debating a set of Mach 1.6's.

How will it spool with just the 275's? I think I'll prolly get a KSB also, being an auto and all.

Big Blue has reproved the first rule of thumb I ever learned on this web page..."Start with lots of air, and than play catch up on the fuel"

He had lots of untapped power under his hood...just needed more air to got out!

Why do so many of us do it the other way around?

2500CTD, you can run the KSB-1 with just the 275's but it's laggy. Not real bad but noticeably more so than with the comp. If your not having any EGT problems, then I wouldn't worry about it. If your going to go bigger then yes, go ahead and get this turbo. I can spool it to 24psi of boost and my EGT's are about 1000*(comp turned off). Cruising on the highway there's almost zero lag. The only problem I have with it when running just injectors is that once you hit over drive, the truck becomes a real pig. That's where the comp would come in real handy spooling the turbo.

What can I say, I know what I'm doing. Yeah right.

Well, I just went through my first tank of fuel. I was very hard on this tank because this new turbo is just to much fun. But, now it's even more fun. My hot rodding mileage went from 13 to 15mpg!!! I went 405 miles on 26 gals. I can't believe it. I'm gonna let the next few tanks do the real talking cause I'll be driving it a little saner since diesel went way up in price But so far it looks like I'm doing better. The only thing I can figure is that unless I'm on 5x5, I run on 2x2 and since the comp doesn't add fuel until 10 psi, and I don't even see 10psi cruising at 75mph, the comp never starts adding fuel. I may have finally found a happy medium between power and economy. Time will tell but for now, I couldn't be happier.

Dumb question, does the KSB have a WG, or would it better to get an extrenalone, of twins are eventually in the future plans?

The KSB-1 doesn't have a wastegate. You need an external one. The external one would work great with a set of twins.
