Talking kdp and my 2000

I have searched extensively on this site and I would like to know once and for all, does my 2000 need to have the KDP issue addressed? I spoke with DSG in town here and they said don't worry about it, but they are also in the business of repairing diesels as well and I need to know.
Thanks.

if KDP stands for killer dowel pin, then according to a diesel power article a long time ago, dodge corrected that issue in the 1998.5 and newer.

i don't have the article in front of me to quote, but i do know i disregarded this issue as it did not apply to my truck.

also, i think this was only a 12V problem.

ive heard that cummins had old timing cases like on the 12v that got put on 24v up untill 1999 or 2000. Guess it couldnt hurt to check anyway, its better then having it wreck your motor

I have personally seen a KDP case on an '02.

This is in my dad's truck, so I know all the history with it.

So, all trucks SHOULD be inspected for the KDP. The $1 tab fix is worth it's weight in gold if you have an older case.

you got that right!!! My 98.5's pin was sticking out an 1/16" when I did mine!!!!!!
Pounded 'er back in 'n tabbed 'er. sure gives me peace of mind to know it won't come out now.
PS: made mine own tab outa circular saw blade!!

labour = $0
tab = $0
silicone for front cover = $0.50
no more worries = PRICELESS

The KDP is not just a 12V problem. If you ignor it, chances are good that itll get you.

My 99 had it, Advanced Diesel Technology [Doug] had the template & addressed that problem for me.

I thought that the issue was solved on the 24v (althouth the myth of using up old 12v cases on the 24v is just that, cases are quite different when it comes to the mounting of the IP), but low and behold, its just a straight hole through the case. My dowel was still all the way in the block, but it still could have come out. Wouldn't hurt to check it at one point, stake it or tab it and be done. My 12v is of the new updated design, so atleast there won't be any issue with this one.
