Hey as some of you may know, I have a 98 silver extended cab short bed and Im hoping in the near future to get some wheels and bigger tires on the truck. I have always liked the chrome wheels, but have also had people tell me that the black and chrome wheels wouldnt look bad either on my truck, anyone have any pictures of a silver truck with good looking wheels and tires on it? Open to any ideas.

Im a sucker for Alcoa rims or those Mickey Thompson classic II's on these trucks, i just love the way that they look. But it all depends on what u like. I know trucks with some awesome custom rims are James Lucas's truck, GotLift01 has some nice rims too, just browse the photo sections

I wouldnt touch chrome or black rims, since both are steel.

Aluminum is all that rims are made out of in my book....

Weld Super Singles or the older Mickey Tompson forged 8 hole classics. Not the cheesy cast aluminum knock off versions.....

 

I think the Eagle 058s look great

But there are other rims that I've seen that look very good.

The American Racing Atlas look good. The Ultra Claws look very nice. Some Ions look good. The Classic IIs ain't bad.

Just don't get 20s with low pros. I hate that look! Especially a big 4wd truck!

Also get rid of those ridiculous little tires! Get at least 285s or 295s with stock height or 315s with a leveling kit.

 

I have Weld Super Singles on my truck and am having leaking problems with them. I have contacted Weld about the problem and they were much less than helpful. They told me to take them back to where I bought them if they were less than 18 months old otherwise they were out of warranty. The wheels were put on the truck from the dealer when it was originally purchased five years ago so I'm screwed. Nothing like have a $1,2000 set of wheels that leak with no recourse after 18 months. I'd go with a cheap cast wheel that probably will never leak.
For those wondering how they leak. They have a seam on the face just outside the holes. After going to a few tire shops they all seem to say this is a very common problem with Weld wheels and that is why they don't sell them.

 

That was a problem with older Weld Wheels,
they've since managed to fix the problem, or so I've heard. (I hope)

I like chrome.

 

There are com,panies making black alumunim wheels, the Moto Metals, and I know American Racing has some as well.

When I get my rims I will most likely get brushed alumunim and have them powdercoated black... I like the black rims on these trucks...

 

Back in my lifted 4x4 truck days, all anyone ran was Welds. You either had welds and swampers, or no one cared. Never did I or anyone I had ever ran into, talked to on the internet, or any place else hear about a leaking rim like that. Wow!

 

I had a set of 16x10 Welds on my old Chevy truck and they were starting to leak. The problem is that it was a 2 piece wheel and where they had welded them together the weld was breaking. Weld was also less than helpful to me too.

I too have heard of the problems with Weld Wheels. Most of my buddies bought them in one style or another and had issues with leaking/cracking. Turns out it was due to over-stressing the wheels by pulling a trailor or a heavy load in the bed. With all Weld's advertisements about being the strongest on the market it appears some got by the QC check.
By the way the load that cracked the wheels twice was a bobcat on a trailer and an auxilliary tank in the bed of the truck, not extremely heavy at all for these trucks. Since then my buddy has switched back to stock steel wheels and not had an issue yet. Go figure.
