Hot Rod VP

So I have been looking into it. I like the results I have been reading about for the Hot Rod IP. I was wondering if anyone has any bad experiances with it?
Also, what you all recommend to change along with the IP. I know I will need to add gauges, anything else needed to support the new high horsepower IP? thanks

check into getting a vulcan big line kit and it wouldn't hurt to install a pusher pump while your doing that also. Holley, carter, fass are all good pumps to fit the chore.

how much more smoke do you get with hrvp, and will egt's be to high? I have a BHAF with heatshield and my stock exhaust straight piped now. I have a bad feeling my VP is on its way out and I'm looking at either a hrvp or putting an SO pump on my HO engine.

If your not wanting to go over 450-500 hp your ho pump is fine. There is cheaper HP to be had, for the 600 buck for 50-80 hp than a hrvp provides. JMO

with his 99, he should have a SO pump... no real reason to switch to a HRVP-44... the SO pump should provide plenty of fuel.

well, I have an HO and would like to hit 550-600hp eventually. I just wondered if my pump is indeed on its way out, is the hrvp something I can put on while its mostly stock or should I go with a SO pump to replace my HO

That's alot of HP out of a vp truck on #2 only. Alot of the guys with HRVP's are wanting to change to a SO pump, to try to get to those #'s . BUT, Doug has done it with a HRVP. The anwser to your ? is yes, You can put a HRVP on a stock truck, but you could also put a SO pump on there for less $$, and spend that money on some bigger HP. JMO

? Your sig says a 99 with an auto, how do you have an HO pump, anyways go with a stock SO pump for around $1100 and use the rest of your money for a good set of EDM injectors, you can make tons of power on a SO and if you ever wanted to change your setup or go back to stock, it's alot easier to swap out some injectors and get most of your money back, cant do that with a HRVP

Seems to me the guys that are putting a lot of power down are not talking about, or using hot rod pumps. I really don't like mine. I hate the idle, and the power gains are not all that impressive. I would like to go back to a stock pump and nozzles for that matter.

I've got an HRVP, and it was a nice upgrade when my VP failed, along with the 80hp injectors, but I wouldn't do it again. Terrible idle, surges on light throttle and load, doesn't seem to cut the fuel all the way when coasting. I've got it sitting in the back of the truck right now, waiting to get rid of it. If you find a used one for a good price, get it, but I wouldn't buy a brand new one, especially since the prices went up since I bought mine 20 months ago.

i agree with ya to a point... i have the II hrvp44 and for a failed IP i think its worth it and im happy with the money spent would i buy this pump just because i wanted a little power?? NO but for a broken pump i think its fine my 99 auto with just BHAF and 5" exhaust doesnt have the crazy idle that some have.. it idles different (higher rpms) but its tolerable ... when i bought the pump they said some trucks get the bad idle some dont... guess its just luck of the draw.. or unluck ..
