Installed NAPA semi metallic pads about 3 wks ago. Now that the nice weather is here and the windows are finally getting rolled down I hear this squeal, squeak and skreech when I came to a stop. Can't be mine I just replaced them.
Well it is and I'm now riding with the windows up and not making eye contact with all the funny looks I'm getting . Gotta get them off and quick, I've read alot about the Hawk brand and looking for some advice, cause my brakes are louder than my exhaust not good. Thanks

I Put These Pads On My 1994 When I Had It And Was A Little Surprized At The Immediate Squeak They Had From Installation To The Day I Sold It. THEY CAME FROM GENOS. I Still Get To See This Truck Quite Often And They Are Still Sqeaking And Sqealing. My Take On The Whole Brake Picture Is That A Softer Pad Compound Like That Of Hawks Will Wear Out Faster Than Metallic Or Semi-metallic But You Won't Be Wearing On The Rotors As Much In Many Different Aspects And "my Opinion" Is That This Is A Good Thing. The Less I Have To Mess With Taking Off The Older Style Rotors (lugs Attached) The Better.

I went back to stock pads after trying two different pads from two aftermarket performance companies. They do the job and are quiet. You can do a search for Mopar discount parts out there.

Hawks are all I use. Use the cheapest grade, HPS Street brake, or they will squeak.

I actually put performance friction on mine and so far I have been really happy. They are quiet but still leave a lot of dust on the front wheels.

Has anyone tried spray painting the back side of the pads or applying a thin coat of silicone or RTV before install. Usaully does the trick with squeaking.
Most of the time the sound is coming from vibrations rather than the pad to disk .

I used the heavy duty or performace grade. I did paint the back of the pads before install and havent had any squeaks. still makes dust but no more than the stock pads did.

P.F.'s were one of the brands that didnt work out well for me. I did the breakin prodedure and was rolling through intersections. Next set of rotors will be powerslot cryo-treateds. More power to you guys where these products have worked.I'm envious.

I'm sure Hawk are good pads if Bill likes them, but...

I replaced my OEM pads with the cheapest house brand at Autozone ($15 or 20) and they stop better and make no noise. Wearout guarantee, and they are not metallic. Dust? What dust? It's a truck.

Most squeals come from using new pads on old (even turned) rotors. The Hawks will do it less if you follow a good bedding in procudure though! Be sure to get the LTS Hawks unless you tow 99.9999% of the time then get the Super Duty compound. I can't encourage you enough to also get new Cyro'ed Powerslot rotors, you'll be glad you did as you'll stop shorter, no fade and likely you'll never need to turn them etc!! The difference they made on my truck and MOMMA's Navigator is well worth it!

I replaced my stock crap with Brembo rotors($60), EGR blueprinted calipers($120),and Hawk LTS pads($60). Followed the breakin procedure(boy they smoked!) and I have quiet perfectly straight and instant braking.

Thanks Mark, and your right they are the original rotors. They have never been turned and the speedo is at 118,000. I'd rather replace them then turn them.

Get the Hawks pads and Powerslot rotors and you'll be waaaaaay happy. I have been as are many many customers.
