Goerend trans installed

Goerend trans installed
Hey guys,
Well you may remember the post that I posted a couple of weeks ago about my Full Billet Suncoast transmission exploding after 8 months as I was driving up the NY thruway at 75mph. Well, after a couple of phone conversations and a couple more e-mail conversations I was convinced buying another trans from Suncoast would be a colossal mistake. I'm not saying that my SC trans didn't shift well because it did. As a matter of fact I liked it very much up to the time it came apart.
Anyway I called the nice folks at Goerends and ordered up one of their complete units with billet shafts. I don't know how long this trans will last me but I know that I have a much better feeling about spending thousands of $ on a new trans. I have to say that I have never talked to strangers that made me feel more at ease. From the 1st conversation with Denise and Darla to the multiple conversations with Dave I felt like I was really an important customer. (The exact opposite of how I was treated by Ron at SC). So far the Goerend unit is working fine. I did buy the shift enhancer and installed that today. I like the way it shifts alot better now. I was surprised that Dave sent his own pressure gauge with the trans so when we gave him pressure readings he knew that the readings were taken with a meter he was familiar with. All good stuff.
So far the big difference between the 2 units are the Goerend trans doesn't hammer the gears like the SC unit did. The SC trans would hurt when it shifted and to be perfectly honest that was the way I wanted it. After talking to Dave he convinced me to try it his way. Also the Goerend TC is a little looser then the Suncoast which I was pretty used to. I have to tow a heavy load early in the week so I'll know how it tows soon.

Im running a Goerend and it has done great...any shaft can break in the name of racing, but he has been great with warranty. Are you running the 15 blade left cut converter?

the turbo spools quicker and there is a little less smoke.

I don't really know... I just went with what Dave recommended. He knows that I tow hvy and often. I will call him on Monday and find out.

We have similar trucks so it sounds if you are happy so would I. I'll be installing a super b I got a good deal on here pretty soon. My goal is 400-450 hp and no more.

Hey guys,
Josh I just came back from a 75 mile ride alot of stop and go some highway. The turbo definitely spools faster and there is alot less smoke. So far so good. I would say for 400 to 450 hp this is alot more trans then you would need. But the my Suncoast was supposed to be way more then I needed too...

I have had great luck so far with my Goerend. It has towed our 15k fiver with no problems. The only problems I have when towing is that the stupid electronics still want to lock up OD at 50mph sometimes. Most of the time I can put enough peddle to it so it won't do it, but sometimes it still does and bogs down to 1300-1400 rpm and barks the turbo. I wish the tow/haul button on the 05 would actually do something other than lock up 3rd also.

On you '05, once you're over 50 mph, pull the lever to L2. That will keep the trans from going into od, and is too fast to drop into 2nd.
I have had great luck so far with my Goerend. It has towed our 15k fiver with no problems. Mike I talked to Dave yesterday and I asked about the left cut converter and he reminded me that he sent me a 3 disk but with a stock stall. He said due to the fact that I tow so much and so heavy he wanted me to go with the stock stall. He said that the stock stall is the coolest running converter that he sell and it will help keep the smoke/egts under control.
It definitely helps with the smoke and I haven't seen the trans temp over 170 yet. I have to tow 20,000 on my trailer today so I'll report back in a couple hundred miles.

Update time...
I towed 10,000 instead of the 20,000 load that I was going to tow. The trans worked PERFECT! I can see why Dave went the way he did. The truck tows awesome and the trans temps stay very cool. The tc took a little to get used to when the truck is empty but when it has a load behind it the looser converter really helps to keep egt/smoke under control.
All in all I'm very happy with the new trans from Goerands.

Thats awesome man i love mine, i got the 15 blade left cut, i dont ever tow but probably will someday. Mine is a little on the tight side, maybe i should have went with stock stall for faster spool up
