Genos billet fuel filter cap question

I just received the billet cap from genos along with the Westach fuel pressure sender and gauge. I had expected this to be reading the pressure post filter but from looking at things and reading on here it appears it will actually be reading pre-filter pressure.

It seems that this will still give information on the health of the lift pump, but will not give information on wether there is enough fuel being supplied to the common rail high pressure pump. It would seem that the LP could still provide good pressure into a clogged filter while starving the common rail pump for fuel. Is this a correct assumption?

The reason I wanted a fuel pressure gauge was recently experienced a fuel filter plugging issue where my fuel economy was decreasing and I was experiencing high boost/EGT's with a sputtering sounding engine in gears 3-6 when I got on the fuel peddle. Changing the fuel filter eliminated these problems. Will the pre filter pressure gauage be able to indicate trouble with the filter clogging? Anyone with this setup have experience?

Also, with this billet cap are people mounting the sending unit directly on the cap? Or are you using some hose to move the sending unit somewhere else? Looks like there's plenty of room to mount it directly on the cap . . .

Does anyone who has the billet cap have any comments? Can you tell if/when your fuel filter is plugging? Did you mount the sending unit directly on top of the billet cap? Does this complicate the removal of the cap for fuel filter changes? Anyone?

I just got the same setup a couple weeks ago. I can't comment on the clogged filter issue as I have not experienced it. I do however change my fuel filter with every 2nd oil change. I mounted my sender directly on top of the cap and so far so good. The only thing is that the filter does not stick into the cap like it does with the stock cap. I don't know if this is a problem or not...

Thanks for the reply.

Did you use electrical disconnects for the sending unit so you can disconnect the wires and unscrew the filter cap without tangling the wires?

The more I think about the filter plugging and the implications on the LP side of the filter makes me think that it should be noticeable as follows: With a clean filter the pressure on the LP side should drop to some baseline value under fuel throttle. If less fuel is being supplied due to a clogged filter then the pressure on the LP side should start to creep up under fuel throttle conditions due to the filters restriction and less fuel being supplied. This assumes that the LP's pressure under high fuel flow conditions drops as a function of fuel volume pushed through it (a clogging filter allows less fuel through so there would be higher pressure on the LP side). I wish someone could confirm or negate this hypothesis for me . . .

Sounds to me like your truck will be the test dummy for this....

I got the fuel gauge and a banjo bolt from Genos and tapped in at the bottom of the fuel filter, hence post filter. Bought a grease gun hose and mounted the sender. The sender must be vertical to work right. Mounted the gauge in place of the cig. lighter. It seems to work for me.
