front tranny seal blew
What would cause the front tranny seal to start pouring out fluid. My daughter was driving my 97 last night and the front seal blew. It also seemed to get hot as the plastic clip on the trans line up front hooking it to the cooler got hot enough to pop loose. The fluid doesn't smell burnt or look burnt. She shut it off when she saw smoke coming out from under the truck and when I got there we started it and backed it up about two feet so it had enough fluid to move left in it. I really don't understand what caused this unless it got hot from the convertor not being locked up in town but I drive all the time in stop and go traffic and it has never caused a problem. This is a built trans with a multi disk convertor and billet shafts. Any guesses?
When it is out maybe the clutch packs ought to be checked make sure none of them got burned cause of low fluid levels. Thanks,Gary
