flux 2 injectors driveability & performance

I recently installed a set of flux 2.1 - 2.2s & they are very smooth power fuel mileage is only down a little, however I live in a big city and almost get into fights with people every time I drive the truck. due to the extreme smoke the injectors put out they work well performance wise , but if ya put your foot into it even the slightest bit the truck will literly stop traffic no joke , also egts are very high EGT + 200 compared to stock injectors, too bad i cant enjoy driving my truck because everytime i give it a little throttle its big huge smoke massive.... if it were a track only truck or I lived in mexico or the middle of the country with few people it would be ok but it is pretty much not driveable in the city or freeway unless you drive like an egg is under the pedal and that is not fun with a cummins. anybody else experiance similar results ? I figuered 2.0-2.5 would be streetable but I am thinking probably the f1 40hp are probably the best compromise for performance and driveability I would hate to see the smoke that flux 3.0-4.5 + would produce I would think you better have a get out of jail card handy or ur done!!

I was just out given the old cummins a workout, no Smarty just stock. . I had to really lag her down to make it smoke. EGTS are higher yes, mileage not sure. I have to say with all the mods I have done I'm very pleased with how the truck performs (no Smarty).
Truck is off to the dealer for a cam sensor replacement.

So as far as lots of smoke, not for me.

thanks for the reply and feed back , I love the way they run but mine run hot and throw out some serious smoke.... maybe mine are way bigger then what I was sold ? hmmm..........

I initially thought its got to be a combo of injectors and fueling ? so i turned tst to 0/0 mp8 to 0 and bdtd returned to stock hmmm still very little differance almost exactly the same smoke ....... so maybe these are 3.0++ I dunno somebody else chime in please ...........

anybody running 2.5 or bigger fluxs hows the smoke output ? how are the egts compared to stock injectors ?

hey dont get me wrong, smoke at WOT with boxes on intermediate to high settings is to be expected ! but this is like stop the freeway car is on fire smoke a total bust to drive in the daylight....with all programming off not to mention with boxes turned off imagine towing a boat or light trailer just ***** footing it and totally saturate the boat or trailer with soot

Yeah my flux 2s seem to smoke way more then I want with all the power adders off. I think that I might go smaller just to try to get some of the low end performance back. Mine will smoke just crusing at highway speeds with hardly any load on the truck. And what bugs me most is everytime I start it in my shop I have a soot mess to clean up. I talked with Tim Barber about them and he said I could change if needed. I was just wondering if a little pressure would help but not sure.

I am running DDP 50ish injectors, I get lots of smoke from them, but only when I am really dialed up,,, I can manage the smoke fairly easy... I was told that if I went to a 90+ injector that I might run into those kind of problems

I'm trying to accomplish the same .
So far the Smarty on stock torque management is close.
Stock software & a little pressure seem to be the right combo for no smoke. Egts are about the same when cruising.

I never have a problem! I have 3.5's and I can run everything off, or smarty on #9 no worries. I live in northern VA and the cops out here are strict. The only time I roll serious coal is if I lug it. At full throttle at best I get a slight gray haze. Maybe its my cam and twins I dont know. But I would think with 2's and your turbo youd be fine. Hmmm?

Wow this scares the heck out of me now. I went with the 3.3. I drive mine daily and if I am smoking everywhere I go that will suck. Guess I will find out how it goes later next week. Install in three days.

You have dual CP3's and a HTT66 turbo in front of an auto? How tight is your TQ converter and what size are the tires? 3.73 gears?

I am trying to see if I have your list of mods correct.

2's are very driveable in nearly all situations.

Heck I just put some 5's in a 03 and it is fine to drive. Something is cooking. Lets figure it out.

yes, by all means, lets figure this out Don. Putting my 3.3's, springs, and pump in this week also with a dual feed line. What should I be looking at to make sure I keep the smoke under control?

I have a Goerend Bros TC that is pretty tight, so I would understand the low end smoke, but when I am crusing at 70mph I will see a constant haze out the tailpipe with my flux 2s. And I am currently running a EDGE juice w/att. HOT version, but it did the same with the TST PMCR49. Also II CP3 and GDP lift pump Scheid street cam.

Tight converters, tall/large tires with 3.73 gears, large laggy single turbos, excessive rail pressure and aggressive DL or box settings are all bad for smoke.

A Flux 2, 3 or even a 3.5 is a not a smokey injector in nearly all cases.

3's in the 03-04 trucks hardly smoke at all Dan, dont worry.

Snox, if the camshaft you have is opening the exhaust valve too early, your going to get that haze. I have seen this more than a handful of times. I would be more than willing to look at the injectors for you as well. Yank 'em out, send 'em down and I will check them over.

My 3.3's are great. They hardly ever smoke when turned down. I have a Stage 2 pump also but a 6 speed. I am going to go larger when the dual pumps go on.

After these two posts I am less worried. I dont mind the smoke cause even with the Predator on extreme and Edge off I will get smoke off a stop. I just dont want to black out everything every time I drive down the road. Now when I am playing I could care less.

Don whats a "too" tight converter in your opinion - in relation to exessive smoke?

Smoke is just not enough air for the fueling. Check your air filters and make sure your getting lots of boost....Keep the rpm's up...especially around town.....I put it in 2nd...keeps the revs up but it does lock the tc. Timing has a big effect on smoke I find also... Keep the boxes on but turned down....adding too much pressure and duration with big injectors will give you tons of power and tons of smoke...Good luck finding the balance. ks
