Egt?

So today was my first day to actually pull something with the goat since I bought it. I was pulling a small ski boat with a boat and trailer weight of maybe 1500#. The truck usually sits at about 600 on the egt's at 55 mph. While pulling the boat at 55 if I started pulling a hill I was getting very close to 1000 and boosting about 10-15 psi for depending on length of hill anywhere from 30-45 secs. Now pulling at 55 is lugging 5th but to high for 4th. Hits right between them but dont really have a choice in speed as the limit is 55 and the road is heavily worked by troopers. Were these high readings from the lugging or should I look somewhere else. I bought the truck to haul my mud truck and soon a camper. These readings from the boat now have me worried the truck wont safely handle 20,000 or more. Any suggestions?

Do you still have the stock intercooler? A power joke intercooler would be a big upgrade, especially if paired with larger tubes. Aside from that you just gotta keep the rpm's up.

1000 degrees is not even close to too hot and 55 is not too fast for 4th.

That said, once you have a real load on you will need to adjust your driving style. With that big turbo you need to keep the RPM up, it does not make enough boost at low RPM to keep things cool.

Have you put in a 3200 RPM spring yet?

X2

You need a spring. It'll scream louder with the extra rpms but it will survive.

I can easily do 65 with my NV4500HD running 354s in 4th. When I first ran a hill towing 8000lbs - after passing someone - I looked at the speedo and saw 65 I thought this sure is quiet compared to the G360. EGTs were at about 1000 - pre turbo. I also ran Cabbage Hill outside of Pendelton OR in 4th pulling 8000 lbs with the NV and stayed right at 1000 egts. That was the year the east bound lanes were shut down for paving and we were routed over to the west bound lanes to go east.

I can't see any problem with those temps or running in 4th.

Where is your pyro, in the manifold or downpipe?

The pyro is in the down pipe.

You can run 80 in 4th with 3.54's, I cant run 85 in 5th with 4.10's and 33's.

I can't run 80 in 4th, I got 35s and 3.54, and a 3200 spring. I didn't know my speedo was that far off.

Post turbo pyro

I'd get a 3200 spring, They're so awesome.

More throttle response, power, and top end.

If you have it after the turbo in the exhaust pipe your temp will register lower which it is. If you have 1000 after the turbo it could be anywhere from 1150 to 1350 in the exhaust pipe maybe even higher it's all according to how far down or up the pipe you have it. Next time your working on your truck check the stickys and find out how to install the pyro stinger pre-turbo so you will have an accurate reading. Good luck with your truck.
