Hi guys, I dont come in your forum much.
A buddy of mine has a 06 dually QC auto 4x4. He installed the Juice, 5" exhaust, and Airaid or something similar for a intake. He is seeing boost numbers in the 35-40 range. He is concerned that this is too high. So I told him I'd ask you guys if this is normal. I asked him if he installed a boost elbow in the turbo and he didnt know what that was, so I guess he didnt.
What turbo is on 3rd gen trucks, and is the wastegated controlled electronically? Are these boost numbers too high for a stock turbo?

That looks like normal boost numbers with what he installed. And yes the wastegate is electronic. As for boost numbers anything over 40 I would think about re-studing the head.

 

The boost is about right with the Juice/Attitude, air intake and exhaust. The wastegate is electric and no boost elbo. I assume he only sees the 35-40psi on level 4 or 5. That level boost will not hurt anything no more than he should see it. The stock turbo will not produce enough boost to require studs. It would nuke way before the HG. As long as his EGTs are not too high he should be fine. 40psi is a little out of the efficiency range for the stock turbo, but I ran mine at those levels with Juice/Attitude for a good while without any issues.

 

electronic wastegate on 04.5+

I'd say over 50psi, get studs....some will even say 60psi.
