A DTR Member Story
A story about a great DTR member.
Last Friday I left work with the happy intent of going to the drag strip for street night to run my truck. Getting on the highway I found out I wasn't going to be at the drag strip that night, because as I put foot in it to accellerate, at about 70 mph the trannie went into neutral, and I coasted to the next offramp where I stopped and called my tranny company. The consensus was that I broke my input shaft since all I had now was "Park". I have no idea how I could have done this because my tranny is supposed to be good for 400 hp, and I'm sure I can't have that much since I still have stock in jectors and only a PM3 Comp. Yes, I have and extra turbo, but STOCK injectors.
Anyway, I got myself towed home (it's good when Dad owns a towing company, but that don't mean free). I called my DTR buddie, about 130 miles away and he said to get it on the trailer. I pulled my 20ft flatbed around with my tractor and pulled the truck onto it, with the help of my heighbor and my '82 F150. The DTR member then drove the 130 miles that night, after celebrating his Dad's birthday for dinner, and got to my house around midnight Saturday. He brought his wife and daughter (who should also be thanked for their patience in this matter).
We installed my brake controller in his truck and hooked up the trailer. He then towed my truck all the way back to his shop so we could work on it in the morning.
I arrived there around 11:00 AM Sunday morning, trying not to wake him up since it was probably 3:30 before he could get to bed after that long tow. I did the majority of the work of pulling the tranny and disassembly, with his guidance, and him helping with the heavy stuff, and the stuff I had no idea about.
Since I wanted to get on the road NOW, and deal with warranty issues later, he contributed his stock input shaft, removed from his tranny when his billet shaft went in, and reassembled the tranny guts so I could reinstall it. The old shaft turned out to have the splines stripped off of it in the front drum.
I put the tranny back in and was running, and towing my car and trailer, by 20:00 that night. 9 hours total. Pretty good in my perspective since in any other circumstance the truck would have been down for at least a week.
The name of the DTR member, who you'd be hard pressed to find a better example of what being a DTR member and great person stands for, TIM BARBER, AKA TimInVa.
I give many thanks to Tim for facilitating the means to get my truck rolling again in what I consider record time.

Sorry to hear about the tranny Chris,
However,,,,,,,, with Tim's old stock input shaft and the clutches out of my tranny (Tim said he used my old ones because your clutches and steels were burnt about 10 times worse than the stock ones that came out of mine with 76K on em!
) ,,,,,,,,, You should have an extra 100hp now!
I agree with ya,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Tim is "Da MAN"
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Now if we could just find a way to get him into business a little closer up here,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Hey Tim,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, there is a real nice shop up here on Rt.460 for sale,,,,,,,,,,,,

Yeah Dennis, I agree. Wiliamsburg or Yorktown would be much better. We could then avoid all the traffic down in Hampton and the the tunnel. I sat in that mess for about a hour on my way down there yesterday.

Thanks for the kind words. I dont get in this section very often but started getting pm's offering help if I ever needed it, so figured I would see what Chris was saying in here. I feel what goes around comes around. Who knows when I could be in the same boat. Luckily I have a understanding wife. If anyone needs help or is just passing through the area let me know. Tim
