I recently bought a truck with a dead Autometer Cobalt 2" pyrometer. Autometer tech support is closed today so I'm looking for someone who can give me some info about the harness on the back of the gauge.
My needle is always at 200* no matter what, but the backlight works. I pulled the gauge out of the pod today to look at the wiring. On the harness that plugs into the gauge I have three wires; yellow, red, and white. The yellow and red come from the probe in the exhuast manifold. The white is hooked to my light switch. According to the installation instructions on Autometer's website there should also be a red 12V wire and black ground wire. If this is correct, I need to know which pins they belong in.

The shop that did mine wired it through the cig. lighter fuse. Its not right, but i believe there is a spare fuse block inside the cab that it should be wired to. Right now, if i use my cig lighter, the 20amp fuse blows. hope this helps.

How was it wired through the fuse? How many wires come off of the back of your gauge, 3 or 5?

I'll get back to you tomorrow, i have to look as i didn't wire or install these guages, i only know that it's connected to my cig. lighter because when i use the lighter the fuse blows and the pyro quits working.

Thanks for your help. I did get Autometer tech support on the phone and it turns out my gauge was missing two wires. All I can guess is someone wanked too hard and pulled the wires out of the harness??? I checked the back of an old cd player I had sitting around and it took the same type of pin in the connector, so I pulled two of those wires and pushed them into the guage connector. Everything's perfect now. I even got the correct color wires. It feels good getting issues like those fixed. Every time I got in my truck I had to stare at a non-working gauge. It's bad for one's self esteem.
