Yesterday on my trip home from a meet i got a hole in one of my remote cooler hoses and dumped ATF all over the place. Don't know exactly how much i lost but when checking the level (in netural/hot) it was at the very bottom of the dipstick. The trans started to slip between 2nd and 3rd, and 3rd and OD that's how i noticed it. In first and reverse it felt fine. Just seemed like the idle was lower/differant sounding. Temps were around 180 in the pan never got real hot. That is in comparison to the old 518 where i would see temps in the 200's while towing.
My thinking was to drop the pan, refill, and drive. That is unless if anyone has any better suggestions.
O yea, the hose was rubbing on the corner of the cab support and the lovely PA TurnPike did it in yesterday[yuk]

Just refill and drive. If you hurt it it will keep slipping.

The PowerFlite in my old New Yorker leaked so much fluid that it got to the point that I'd just wait for it to start slipping and shifting funny before I'd add fluid. Still worked great!

That's what you call a fluid flush. Jiffy lube charges for that. Just fill it up and go, I did the same thing on my 96 a few years back. Except it was snowing and the stripe up the center of the road was red instead of yellow.[laugh]

the fluid was only a month old with about 800 miles on it though [laugh][dummy]. I feel like i just let dollar bills go flying down the road. I spent 100 bucks on fluid to fill the thing a month ago [yuk]:(.

Had a '66 Baracudda that did the same thing. I kept a case of ATF in the trunk for when it started slipping bad. usually needed 4-5 quarts then......[laugh]

I popped a cooler line leaving a wheeling event last Sept. and dumped it ALL :(
Had a couple qts. of AFT+4 ($$$) and a gallon of generic Dextron/Mercron (III?) ATF (ran in both the Jeeps tranny & power steering), so.... rather than spend the night a hundred miles away, in it went. Still pulled fine, seemed to shift a bit firmer/harder, but ran a bit (15*-20*) warmer. Had to stop in the first town for another gallon (it was EMPTY). Added another quart or so and made it all the way home without any issues.
Since I hope to start pulling the Moss with it soon (we'll see how that goes), I was thinking about another draining and going with the D/M 4 (5?) that others are using... can't take too many flush & fills of ATF+4 at the ridiculous price everyone wants for it...

A few.
the best was the chevy with the 454. he was ridding my butt on the flats then I let him go by. Got to the one hill and went by him at 60. 20 mins after I got to the campground sure Enough he pulls in right next to me. He came up to me today and asked what I had done to the truck that it pulled so well haha. He said he has about three grand into the engine.

It was a tbi. I spent quite a few hours wrenching on my buddies and grandfathers.
I think I might be ditching the stacks after this tip. It was the first long trip with the 435s and my white camper is black :o

Did you tow in valet?
Why don't you run a 4" electric cutout...so when you tow you can have a pipe dumping down under the cab possibly even into a muffler and when your not towing you can just close the cutout and have stacks...
noone would see your "secondary pipe" under the truck

yea I was in valet mode. Still a bit of haze though. That's a good idea with the cutout. That would be nice when I am plowing my clients drive ways at 3 in the morning. Do they make 4" electic cut outs? I had a 3" one on my srt4
