Lightbulb Dana 80 swap!

So my dad recently bought a 2001 Automatic CTD for my little sister to drive. It is gonna be used like a car so it will not be getting any performance mods and it will not tow anything heavy. I was thinking about the possibility of swapping out my Dana 70 for it's Dana 80, because have perf mods, tow and need LSD more than my sister. I am told the spring perches are the same, which leads me to believe that the shock absorber mounts would easily swap over, I can make new sway bar mounts, and the brake lines are in the same spot, etc. I am wondering about the brakes and yolk.

Can I swap brakes completely? If not, is the bias set right that i could just swap them out, or not so much. Also, are the u-joints the same size so that they would just swap out? If not how bout the yolks?

Thanks guys!

yours is narrower than the 2001 Perches are the same your springs are narrower and you have to weld up a mount for the newer E brake
I had to have new shock mounts welded............. I have a lift though

you might have to muck around with the shock location
I think U joints are the same but the drive shaft had to be shortened

Are you sure it is even a Dana 80, if it's an automatic then it should have a 70. Only the manuals and 1 ton duallies came with 80's and even then they are not true 80's. Only the center section is from an 80, the axles, hubs, and spindles are all the same as a 70.

Even IF it was an 80... After the welding work and $$ for things like new U-bolts would that REALLY be worth it anyway?? I think it would be cheeper and less time to buy a limited slip and install it in your truck if thats what you are after.
