Wanted to post a technique I verified during my recent transmission install. The crossmember is v shaped and difficult to install. After some research I used a hi lift jack to stretch the frame right behind where the crossmember mounts. I didn't think it would work at first but found that it worked well and saves lots of hammering and frustration

If you do it right it comes out pretty easy with no spreading the frame rails.

Coming out is easy. I was referring to the install.

Goes back in just as easy IF you get it in the right spot. About 2 whacks with a hand sledge on each side and it usually goes in.

It's been a few years since I have done it. The first time was a lot of trouble and used a portapower to spread the frame. I didn't like that at all and tried a different tack next time around. Once we figured out how to do it we were surprised at how easy it was. Still needed a couple blows from the hand sledge but not like the first time. And I would have to figure how it comes out all over again now.

Lol I hear you. I am sure by the time I have to do it again I will have forgotten all of it as well. Good to know it can be done that way, I certainly didn't want to spread the rails either. We spend a few hours trying several different ways but just couldn't get it done. I guess more patience is in order next time
