Couple of Questions?

I was looking at to fix the KDP on my truck and found this.

It this a new timing case? I don't think I could fit the pin cover there.

Also, I was going to check the gears for timing since it was out. But the manual shows an "C" lining up with the "E" on the fuel pump gear.
And double dots to a single dot on the cam and crank gears.
This is what I have.

Is this correct?

Also, I made a tool to rotate the fuel pump.

I need a longer screw in the smaller hole. It was just for a test.
Here it is in use.

I just drilled and tapped some holes for bolts that corresponded with the holes in the pump plate at an 0.820" center to center in a 1/2" peice of keystock. Since I read you guys cut that top section off, you could just redrill some more holes on the plate down lower.
It makes rotating the pump real easy.

I also made a adapter to check the lift of the IP since I was too lazy to look around for a proper one. I am going to make one for a longer dial so I can hopefully install it with the lines in place. Let me know if you would like picks of it.

Also, if the pump is way past timing, would the truck run?

Thanks for your time.

Everything is normal, correct. The case is nothing different, just a 1st gen rotary pump case. If you have a punch or brass drift slightly bigger than the dowel pin hole, take it along with a hammer and hit the hole at the 12, 3, 6, and 9 oclock positions. Peen it, is what the old timers call it. The pin won't go anywhere after.

Yes the truck would run way advanced or way retarded. Might not run or sound good, but will run.

This case:

Looks different than mine.

There is a raised boss on mine.
I don't think the KDP cover would lie flat. Like this:

The raised area around the dowel pin is on the first gen., while the flat area is on the second gen. TST Products makes a 'stepped' tab for first gens. You'll have to specify which tab you need.

Thanks alot for clearing that up.
I had read somewhere that Dodge had made some changes to the timing case to stop that problem and thought mine might have been changed as it didn't look the same.

I've heard of guys who grinded down the raised portion with a Dremel or similar so that the flat tab fits flush. I'm not too fond of shavings in the gearcase. Glad to have shed some light for ya.

Aloha,
Matt

looking at the first pic with the picture of the timing gear, how would you advance the timing? How dificult is it to do this. I currently have my gear case appart and might be interested in attempting this if its easy??
