What caused engine light to come on?
Changed engine oil and filter cranked it up ran rough than smooth out then engine light came on any hints to what might be the problem? Also noticed for about 2 weeks or so in the morning when first cranked and running it kinda surges till warmed up oh say 20 to 30 rpm difference. Any help with this diagnostic did the code check and no codes.

Re: What caused engine light to come on?
I have had my eng light blink on a couple of times. But just for a second and it goes out. I have read on this site of others having a similar occurence.
As long as it goes out and gauges are normal I ignore it.

Did you bump any connectors or check the air filter? There is a connector on the air filter housing.
If your grid heaters are cycling your rpm may fluctuate.

Did you prefill the filter? If it took a while to get oil pressure it may have set a code for low oil pressure. Normally it should become an inactive code once it see pressure and turn the lamp off though.
Only way to know for sure is to get a scanner on it and retrieve the code.

That's what I was thinking too. Since the filter holds an entire quart of oil, it may take a while for the pressure to come up if it wasn't pre-filled.
Also, if you live near an AutoZone, they can retrieve the code for free with their OBD-II reader.

I would highly doubt that an oil pressure issue would put on the amber check engine lite. Usually engine issues are red (stop now) and emission issues are amber. (drive it but get it looked at)

Turn on the key holding down the trip ODO reset and after the self test should display any codes if present in the system.

Hold down the trip button and turn on the key, don't start. The self-test will run and after it's complete you see the e-code in the odometer display. I kept doing the self-test when I was trying to get the engine hours to display.
