Question Where can I buy the correct VSS?????

Ok, my VSS (vehicle speed sensor) has some physical damage to it and I'm looking to buy a new one. I went to all the auto parts stores in town..........every one of them showed me the same VSS. The new replacement VSS looks nothing like the original. What gives???? I just want the original replacement! Where can I get one? I'm dead in the water with my overdrive right now. I included pictures of my dilema.

Check the sticky to see if the part number is in it. The people at all of your local parts store's are idiots, what they are trying to sell you is not for our trucks, 2wd or 4wd. My local napa and schmucks have been able to get the correct vss for me.

Red face

Well, I finally found one! I went down to the local Dodge Dealership and asked them about a replacement VSS. They brought out the same stupid thing all the other parts stores were trying to sell me!!!!

Sheesh! They then pulled up a illustrated parts breakdown on their computer and I pointed to the correct VSS I needed. It seems they sell 2 different versions of the VSS. The one I needed was the more expensive one ($77. before tax) I decided to bite my tongue and buy it, especially after all the auto parts store problems. What exactly is the deal with the 2 completely different VSS parts being offered????? I still don't get it.

The 2wd and the 4wd are different, or so I've been told. I thought the 2wd unit mounted the same way as the 4wd, but the shape of it was a little different. The wrong one that they tried to sell you looks completely different.

I bought mine on ebay for $29. The one you have in your picture looks like the one for a 2WD Nv4500.
