Boost Pressure
Boost Pressure
Hello All,
Working on hopping up my newly acquired '92. Right now it has a 16 cm housing, fuel screw turned up a smidge. I have a old smokey pin on the way and a 366 spring.
My question is about my current boost pressure. I get up to about 24 psi right away and it slowly climbs to 26. Is this a descent starting point or not.
Also right now I am only seeing about 700* on the pyro but the previous owner installed the probe post turbo, from what I have read the temp will be higher pre turbo so I plan on moving it.
One last question is how do you distinguish between different injectors. I put in a set out of an industrial 5.9 that we use were I work, have read about
6x.13, etc.. Does this refer to the number of holes and there size in the nozzle tip.
Thanks in advance for any input.

This might help you with the injector question http://www.1stgen.org/viewtopic.php?t=1363 . My truck maxes out at 22psi boost, and definitely get that probe moved.
When I put in my 'Ol Smokey pin my boost went from 25 - 27 psi to over 32 - that's with the stock TC slipping like it does.
BUT the pin is true to it's name - you can smoke anytime you want with stocks sticks.

All i did was the 366 spring and moved the power screw and advanced the timing 1/8" i went from about 23 topps to over 35... i don't stay that high because i don't have gauges and don't wish to ruin my engine. Even just easing into the throttle is fast enough if not too fast for daily driving (45mph speed limits) and no point in going over 80 on the highway because mpgs drop like a rock.
Move the probe, its supposed to be before the turbo because the exhaust heat(energy) turns the turbine, after said head has done its work, its energy(heat) is mostly gone.

2 turns from run away, timing to head, denny T pin, bottomed star wheel, HX35/H1C hybrid, 40 lbs with slipping clutch with stock sticks. I pushed 35 psi with the stock H1C and without the Denny T fuel pin or any advanced timing. ive never seen the Old Smokey pin but i went with the cheaper pin and id have to say i love my DennyT. i still have a 366 spring to put in and my 2nd gen intercooler. Its non i/c right now.

anything over 40 is putting the head gasket in a bind. i used to see 40 with non intercooled stixs, timing 1/8 fuel screw maxed, gds 60 mm turbo upgrade, and denny t stage 2 with the 3200 spring. when i intercooled it with a 2nd gen ic it went down to 32 psi of boost. so i felt a little better with that 1300 egts wot up a hill b4 ic install and 1100 wot up a hill after the install.

35 psi. dang that power screw made a big diff.. you must of turned it in quite a bit
i don't even want to know what the 1st 90 d250 we had would do, i had everything you had done to yours Nick, + a dennyt pin

very nice, yeah its definitely a big difference, and i am unsure just how much i put the screw in... im starting to feel the slipping, either from my tires or trans, depends if there is enough traction.
i counted 6-7 threads and i think it was 4-5 stock. At the point i was i was just glad i was able to get it back together and running. Just filled up today and my average went from 18 to 17.5 mpg!!! uh oh...need lighter boots

I know my distances.. its 31 to work and back and 15 to where i keep my other truck. Also the correction factor is easy to figure out, but isn't a constant, its an exponential curve, depends how fast you travel.
The mileage only seems to bee off 30 or 40 miles per tank(500 miles).
The 10mph difference seems to be steady in the truck, as you said. Only up to 80... then she just lingers as the truck continues to pull.... haven't topped it out yet....i may go back to a mechanical gauge, because this one needs a smack to get up and work sometimes... lazy...dog. And reads 10mph when im just idling through back roads.
