Bad News....

Welp I need some motor work.....

TJ came down and helped me a few weeks ago, and we both were fairly convinced the injection pump was damaged when my injector tip broke.
Finally sent out the VP44 out last friday and they called today saying the pump is at 100% good. So I come home and yanked the head off.

Melted #3 piston, and the cylinder wall does look to good.

So does anyone have a 2001 24v Cummins laying around?

Thanks
Rick

would you want to possibly yank a 12v from a donor truck and put that in? i dont have one in mind as of now but im just wondering if you would consider it as an option or do u want to stick with the 24.

I talked to a buddy of mine about doing a 12v swap, but may end up costing more in the end. But from what I have heard, dunno is its true or false, I can get away with just having the one cylinder bored out. I dont think there is any major damage to the wall, mostly piston melted to the wall. I've found rebuild kits with piston for as low at $550 shipped to my door, so depending on the machince shop, I might get away under $1500.

I know two machine shops in our area that I would trust my stuff to. One is in the k of Fischer Auto Parts on Ritchie highway across from Browns Toyota/ The other is down here on Mountain road, Just after the 100 intersection, just after the Citgo station and before Phelps Liquors. I dont remember there anes right now, but they are easy to find. I will be using them soon to do the machine work on my Toyota engine that needs rebuilt. I had a 22re head rebuilt by the guys behind Fisher and they did an absolutely superb job. That is why I am going back again to have these heads done. I am having the other shop do the block work.

You want to do the work with it in the truck, or are you gonna pull the motor to have it bored?

you can bore just on cylinder. i heard that marine pistons are actually better than the stock cummins ones. TJ might now more about that. i can call the machine shop that i know here in essex he won't do it in the frame but he does work on the marine cummins engines i can get some prices for the boring, sleeve, piston and head gasket
