Aux Fuel Tank and Truck Cap

Is it possible to run an Aux Fuel Tank inside a Truck Cap?

I'm concerned about safety ie, venting in the cap.

What are my options?

I have a 110 gal bed tank and I have been thinking about putting my cap back on. My venting cap always makes a mess when the tank is full other than that its dry. Unless I were going to sleep back there, carry an animal or be running a camp stove or heater( not that I would anyways next to a fuel tank) I would not worry about it. My tank is a transfer tank so its limited to venting options unless you want to make something custom. However i see your in AZ so the heat may cause issues that I don't have.

I've got a 45 gallon aux tank inside my truck cap. It is plumbed so it can be filled from the same side as the main tank. I went to a junk yard and got a cut out section from the side of a wrecked gasser so I could plumb through the side of the cap. I plumbed the fuel feed and return line through two manual selection valves on the floor next to the drivers seat so I can switch tanks on the fly. I also ran the fuel guage through a SPDT electrical switch so I can read the fuel quantity in the tank I am using, The system works great.

If you want to install a remote vent, you can get a vent from a marine hardware store or even Walmart in some areas. The vents are designed with a screen to prevent flash fires and fit to a 5/8 inch neoprene hose. A hose barb in the existing tank vent connection should complete the installation. The vent needs to be higher than the top of the tank to prevent spills.

I wish i could find pictures. My boss's truck has a 110gal gas tank in the back of his capped truck. He leaves the windows open and has it plumbed up to about 2' above the bed rail and it uses a standard gas cap with aluminum flip cover. If you don't have side windows you could probably make some vents in the highest point with a cut off wheel.
