Anyone who has removed trans on 4x4...
I'm thinking about installing my DTT torque converter and valve body myself and I'm wondering if you can remove the trans and transfer case together or do you have to seperate them. Of course the manual says to pull the transfer case first but if it's just bolted to the back of the trans, why couldn't you just pull it all as one assembly?

Removing them both at the same time is a bulky chore and dangerous due to that fact and also the weight of the two added togeter. To be safe do it the right way and treat them as seperate units. JMO.
I have pulled a 5 speed NV4500 with the transfer case to replace a clutch in a 1-ton. It was not hard at all. BUT you have to have a transmission jack to do it. I centered the tranny on the jack and ran a chain over the top to keep it from tipping back. Next time I would do it the same way.

That's what I was thinking Contractor. I definitely want to be safe Buzzer but if I can save myself some time I will try to locate a trans jack.. I don't even know if I will do it myself yet. If I get a good quote to do it for me then it's going to a shop..
When I put a clutch in my 5spd. I kept everything together and it worked great. I see that you are running 315's on your truck, I have 305 and used a Semi Tranny jack to make sure that it would be tall enough and also it has a bigger platform. I had no problems and the with the chain over the top it was solid as a rock on the jack.
