American Racing Wheels

Sent AR a e-mail this morning asking them if there are any plans to bring a 17 x 8, 8 lug wheel, with the correct 6.25" backspacing and center bore for our trucks to market. They have some great styles shown on their web site, one that I like is the Kahuna. In the overall scheme of things we may be a small audience but as production of the current body style continues, the number of potential buyers will grow. I'll update if and when they respond.

Thanks. I just had a set of AR 17x8 Atlas wheels put on my truck with Procomp 33-12.50s and I was not too happy with the off-set. The wheels stick out too far and it just doesn't look right. I was also disappointed that the 33s only measured up to about 1/2-1 inch taller than the stock BFG Rugged Trail 265s.

Does anyone make a better fitting wheel for these trucks?

Thanks,

GT

Got Torque.... I've checked many of the wheel manufacturers web sites since ordering my truck in an effort to find a wheel of the correct size and backspacing. So far, this effort has proven futile, hence my e-mail to American Racing yesterday. Perhaps I'll get a response from them this week.

I have pythons on my truck. 12 mm offset is 3/4" beyond stock. With the bushwacker flares I think they look great. I have 285 BFGs on so thats another 1/2 wider than stock. I put a few pics in the gallery.

That pisses me off. The guy at 4-wheel parts said the Pythons WONT fit my truck with a 33-12.50 tire. The 33's should be close to the 285s just a little wider. What size wheels? I would like to have a little talk with the mgr of the store. Maybe they will swamp em out. I just got them 3-4 days ago.

Thanks,

GT

I've already contacted Centerline and I think ARE and they basically respond saying don't hold your breathe. Nothing in the works and Centerline acts like it's a physical impossibility.

I say KEEP HOUNDING THEM.

Good news is Weld Racing is committing to a run of 6.25" Backspace +45mm offset wheels for us!

Vaughn....Is your Weld Racing information concrete? I have Weld Typhoons on my F150 4x4 SuperCrew and love those wheels. What style(s) and widths are they going to make available and when?

Doug....Very nice setup on your truck, thanks for posting.

So far, American Racing has not responded to my inquiry.

So far, I think Dougs wheels look the best as far as aftermarket goes. Take a look at the pics, they fit pretty nice.

Depends on who you talk to. The local tire sore puts these pythons on 315/70-17s which are essentially a 33 12.50. If you look at the bfg site, they indicate that the minimum rim width for 315/75-16 is 8 inches. voila. Interestingly enough, BFG indicates that the minimum rim width for the 315/70-17 is 8.5 inches. dern. Well, that 1/2 inch apparently is open for discussion. The tire store from whom I bought mine installs 100s of the bfg 315s on the 8" python wheels. I acknowledge that this raises the question of how the tire will wear. a 315/70 has about .6 inch less sidewall height than a 315/75 -- probably explaining why BFG recommends 8.5"

I have American Racing wheels on my truck but I'm not shure on the backspacing... they are the Tyrants.... look pretty good on my red truck with black bumpers and black toolbox.

Gary C....Thanks for the heads up on Budniks. I just checked out their site, looks like the new HDX series is aimed at the heavy duty pickup market. I looked at a couple of styles in the HDX line, though I didn't see the backspacing listed. Hopefully, they will offer 17 x 8 wheels with the unusual 6.25" backspacing. I saw several in the HDX line which kind of jazzed me!
