95 CTD: What to look for?
95 CTD: What to look for?
I am looking to get rid of my 03 CTD and get a much less expensive 12v. I have found one at a dealer that looks decent. What do I need to look for on these trucks? Also, is there a sticker somewhere that indicates if it has 4.10 gears or 3.54? It is a couple hours away and I don't want to waste time driving down if it has the 4.10s. It is a 5speed regular cab 4x4 with air. It needs a rear bumper and a tail light. It has approx 140k miles. They are asking $7900.
Thanks for the help.

Seems to be a "decent" deal...
Ok from the serial number you should be able to tell, yet i dont member from which digit and what are the denominations or letters, but it can tell you, Test drive it, if it hits 70mph at 2000 rpms, u know it has 354s, if it hits 65 or so, you got the 4.10s... Well, being in a dealers lot, you might request a build sheet for it and have it faxed, that might help, For a 1995, the main issues, KDP, that is the only one that i can think of, is it stock? has it been moded? and the usual things you look for in a used car...
Best of luck and hope u get it..
Tx
Sounds like a good deal from where I sit. I bought my 95,4x4,5 speed,120K reg cab, all stock in good exterior and excellent interior cond, for 12K about a year ago. I paid to much IMO somewhat cause I got impatient. Pop the hood, open it and look straight up, there was/is the factory sticker with gear ratios etc. I wouldent shy away if it had 4.10s myself. I cruise about 70@ 2K rpm with 265 tires/80 @ 2250. I wish I had 4.10s now after towing with a camper on it. IMO 2nd is to tall If loaded at all, reverse is even worst, so 4.10s would be much better. If you plan on going bigger on tires youll be sorry you have 3.54s. In my case if I had 35`s. Id have to use granny/1st to take off particulary if loaded or uphill.
Problem areas include; starter contacts, 5th gear nut fall off, fuel lines cracking under truck, poor handeling/steering/trackrod issues, ball joints, inner axle seals around 100K + maybe front axle U joints while your at it and KDP. Those are the things I have had fail and read of others with like issues. The injection system is bullet proof,12V... what can you say
If I could find a clean CTD for that kinda $$ Id buy another.
