6 speed conversion owners happy?
just wondering everyone out there that has put a 6 speed behind there 12 valve if they are happy with it or not?
right now I have a NV4500 with 7k miles on a rebuild and it is in for its first and last 5th gear prob. next time=its outta there
thought a 6 speed w/ a aux OD is in order
thought being for this is new business venture where 12500 lbs everday on the bumper pull back and forth interstate and around town
then 28K lbs haulin hay out of the field on the goosneck
project will prob. get down this winter along with drw F350 axles front and rear
Thanks
Tanner

I havent done the conversion but I do own both. Pulling a trailer is great with the 6spd but the 5spd is better for back in fourth driving. I do have a question for you though. Instead of getting a NV5600 why not get a G56. They have less OD and make the 3.73 gears act like 4.10s. You could run the G56 without an auxilary trans.

80-96 F350 DRW axles have 4:10's and gear swaps are about the same as an aux O.D when you have to do front and rear diff.'s as far as $$$ are concerned
so in the summer my truck is now constantly hooked to a trailer with weight
so I thought the 4:10's is the way to go right?
then empty it would be already to skip gears with the six speed?
and then empty/ highway driving the aux. od can keep rpm's down or help me get a speeding ticket
Thanks

i did it in my 97, i kept killing the 4500 and clutches. so i went with a 5600 and a dual disk clutch. but to tell you the truth i wish i had saved all my money and put in a well built auto. the 6 speed is a towing machine, but it is very slow shifting with the dual disk. i never ran it with a single so i can't give fair assesment on that.

I did it, and am very happy with it. I dont race from a stop though, but have done slow rolls from 25-30 mph and of course ran the fords and chevies right into there limiters.
I tow heavy and like the 6 speed, but I have 3.54 gears. When I m very heavy 25-30 k I run in 5th ussually cause 6th is just to fast. With 235 tires the .73 6th and 3.54's I can easily run at 75-85 mph all day...No need for another aux od imo. I can run my 12 v out to 140 if need be. The nv5600 is so much heavier....and so costly it better last for another 200k plus.
I used my 5 speed crossmember, had south bend change the center in my clutch , and used my 5 speed short shifter (that took some ingenuity)

well i dont believe that ford made any drw axles with 3:55's right?
so since the od ratio in a nv4500 and nv5600 are the same I want an aux. od. with the 4:10's

what does it run for $$$ wise to do this swap?
Maybe a built auto and gear swap to 3:73's might be a mo wiser decision
A built auto will handle the load right?

I did it....I LOVE IT!!! That is the tranny that should have been matched to the 12v from the factory!! It makes it so much nicer to tow, leave a stop, cruise, everything!!! It does shift a little slower, but IT'S A TRUCK!! You'll really like towing with a 12v, NV5600, and 4.10's...but if you do that much driving, the OD would be really nice too!

I did it very (lowest) budget I could.....and it was 3000.00 but my option was fix my broken 5 speed.
2200 = used 30k mile 5600
pto cover coolers
375 in shiping (to dock, for 450 lbs of trans)
200 something to change center of clutch disc
I think about 150 for driveshaft stuff
amsoil = something rediculous for oil but its a 2500$ trans...
I used, modded my crossmember, and 5 speed shifter to work.
You need the 5600 belhousing, my used trans came with it. Btw the seller was from this site, thanks.
