48re maintenance questions
I am thinking about buying the HO/48re combo. I am also new to automatics. My questions are: How often does the trans. fluid have to be replaced? Are there any bands to adjust? If there are, is it something I can do in my driveway or does it require special tools? And last, how long can I expect this transmission to last if I maintain it properly. I do not tow anything. Thanks for all your help guys.
P.S. The truck, I'm interested in, has 3.73's.

Re:48re maintenance questions
According to a TB my dealer gave me DC says every 30K miles
the 48RE should have its bands adjusted and power flushed.
I spoke to the service manager and he told me they would only change the fluid and power the flush the 48RE the 1st
30K mile service. He said unless I'm towing a big 5th wheel
the bands really dont need to be adjusted until 60K or 90K.
That's according to my dealership only. I showed him the TB
on the new 48RE and responded that only for servere towing
would he adjust the bands. Design life is 150K miles too.
Hope this helps, 03CTDCO

Re:48re maintenance questions
OK, so I'm cheap and like to do my own fluid changes anyway. Anyone think a power flush is necessary on the tranny? Also, anyone know how much fluid the TC holds?

Anyone think a power flush is necessary on the tranny? [/quote] A flush is like a blood transfusion, in goes new fluid and out goes old till the process is complete and all fluid is changed including converter, cooler lines etc. IMO and how I will be doing mine is a flush every 15K cuz I tow allot and plan to up the power to around 600 to 650 foot pounds. Every 60K I will do both a flush AND drop the pan for a filter change.

Re:48re maintenance questions
Everything I've read says the 48RE is indeed a beefed-up 47RE. I don't know if the 47RE has bands or not, but my owner's manual states the 48RE should have it's bands adjusted when serviced. It also states a mileage service interval of 30K when towing.
