# 4 injector line failure!!!!!! 2006 3500 Ram!!!
Well It finally happened,,,,,On Black Friday!!!!!!! She would have left me High and dry 49 miles into making a 150 mile tow!!!!!
Thanks to this website and a thread depicting this very situation,,,https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...e-t247239.html I was able to gracefully recover and was only 45 minutes late,,, had I not had it and my tool bag,,,, a tow truck may have been the alternative,,,
Luckily,,,, because of the aforementioned thread,,,,, I purchased A spare,,, straight from the Local Cummins distributor for $20.00,,,, its been under the rear seat with all the tools (3/4 end wrench and my travel socket set) 35 minutes later I was pulling my load down the road again,,,, and yes I was no where near town, much less a dodge dealer!!!!! I only found one half of the two piece isolator and an extra broken screw from the first one that had been changed!!! I could tell because the one I took off was real silver looking finish just like the one I put on,,,,,, the original ones have a goldish anodized appearance/finish
I will have a good set of mechanics Gloves to go with my emergency road side rescue kit cause that motor was @ 200 deg. and I still have a few blisters to prove it!!!! ,,,,,,,,,I already have the new line,,,,,
You would think they could come up with a solution,,,,,
Just wanted to mention I tightend my Isolator clamp after reading the thread,, and really dont think that is the answer,,,,,
Perhaps a little 621 red loctite on the clamping fastener????? and I have some teflon blocks that I am going to build a new set of Isolators out of and see what happens!!!!!

Good to hear you had everything you needed to get her back up and running again! I have the line I my truck but no tools. I need to go buy two extra open ended wrenches to toss in there. What sizes are needed?

When I got the truck it had 68 K, In a year I have put 9K more miles on it, so say 77150 give or take a few,,,,,,
I went and checked the Isolator on # 4 when that thread came out,,,, it wasnt really loose but it made a couple 1/4 turns more and it did kinda snap like it may have been loc-tite'ed when I first put the wrench on it :-( :-(,,,,,,, and that was about 5 mo. ago could have been my own screwup..... gotta admit I was a little surprised to see it had been changed before!!!!!
Yea the new version has a Torx screw holding the isolators in place!!!!!!
Hey carl48,,,, Are you running the stock clutch in your truck w/ smarty Jr.???

Yup,,,, saved my bacon,,,,,,, that 18.00+ line and the right tools saved me from losing my rat hole money that day,,, but also got me off the side of the road,,,,
Did I mention how much diesel keeps coming out of the frame rails man a little bit of that stuff goes a long ways!!!!!

The part number above is correct. I had to order mine from the warehouse out in San Antonio becasue Houston didnt have it. Give them a call and see. They will be able to look it up and tell you who has one. I paid like 25 bucks shipped for mine.

Just incase folks are still looking for the #4 line. I just bought one 30 mins ago while I was getting a thermostat today at Cummins Atlantic in Greensboro, NC. 21.03 was the total and the part#above is still correct. 4988808.

Never heard about is until a couple of weeks ago. Traveling home after looking on a cell site through back country at the border of MN and IA. Line blew in Harmony, MN as I was smelling diesel fuel in the cab. I pulled over at a Quick Stop and got real lucky as a mechanic stopped by to pick up smokes. Being a 40 degree night and misty rain and above all a Friday, he stayed and pulled off the line for me. It cracked right by the nut. He took it back to his shop and tried to braze it. That worked about 5 miles and it blew again. Limped into Decorah, IA and shut it down for the night. I got real lucky as the Dodge dealership in Wenona, IA actually is open on Saturdays and had the part. They carry extra lines as it seems to be an issue at 100,000 miles and only the 4th injector line.
So moral to the story, it is very easy to replace and a 15 min job. But for me it cost $99.00 for a room, a $110 towing bill for 17 miles for a $53.00 part (Dodge) and $30 in labor. I need to get an extra one and keep it in the truck.
