2004.5-2006 engine differences
Hello. Is there a difference between 04.5 and 06 engines? I think the 06 is rated at a whopping 10 more ft/lbs. Is there a diff in injectors or something? Anything else I should know?
Thanx.

There are some differences under the hood between these trucks but I don't know of any differences in the actual components of the engine itself, I have a feeling I may be wrong about this though so someone else around here will have to speak up....I think the injectors are the same

shephard,
The 2004.5, 2005 and 2006 all share the same injectors and pistons.
Lets not confuse.
The 2003 and 2004 model year has the different pistons and injectors....Thats what your thinking of.

on the 2004.5 there was a TSB computer reflash experienced by many. Reportedly it increase the motor to the same as the 05 325/610. Otherwise no diference. The real diference was the tow/haul mode that was changed for the 06. The o4.5 and the 05 the tow haul button was really a OD shut off switch.

I don't think there's a bad 3rd gen as long as you get a later 03+ to get the 48re auto. The 03-04.4 supposedly get better mpg but there are some really good 04.5+s, too. I'm getting ~19 with 4.10s. Craig

There was one change I am still trying to get info on why it was done, they went to a different valve and valve seat material that made a different valve lash setting between the two years. anyone got info on that ?

No concrete evidence, but.....
I've heard the ECM capability of the '06 is greater. In what respect I don't know but I didn call my local parts guy and it seems that there are a ton of new ECMs for these trucks so if you have a problem you can't or shouldn't just go get one for your year of truck,.. it probably should match exactly. There were sooooo many ECMs he was telling me on the phone that evidently every couple months of production there is something done a little differently and that accounts for a different ECM.
