2003 battery isolator

I was just looking at my truck to put in aisolator or solenoid for charging the TT battery.
The truck came with the tow wiring etc. but still would like to isolate someway.
I can not find the charging wire under the hood does anyone know were it is and what color.
Thanks

It might be already isolated I would think. I just found out my factory truck wireing charges my New 5th wheel batterys. I wasnt going to wire it in for my alternater to charge the trailer but it was already done.

If you have the 7pin plug in the back you are charge ready.

Cliff,
That sucker is so elusive I ended up mounting mine at the rear of the truck and just running a new wire to energize it from the ignition. You could use a diode in line near the back and be in business also. The line is definitely not isolated from the factory (which is really stupid in my opinion ).

I just installed a controller in my sons new 2005 Ram Hemi and the paperwork that came with the factory harness for the controller said the 7-way has charging current for the trailer battery but you must disconnect it when you park or you will drain the truck battery. So there is NO isolator on the trailer circuit.
Also there are probably not more than 20 amps available for drawing heavy loads, like a dead trailer battery.

Okay I have a question. Any time I'm pulling my 5th somewhere, I'm obviously plugged into the truck and therefore charging the battery. When I get where I'm going, I disconnect and unplug from the truck. No worries about running my battery down at that point. So why do you need an isolator?? Am I missing something? If for some reason I park somewhere and leave the truck hooked up for several hours, I just unplug from the truck for safety's sake.

I unplug my TT when I get there and then Iam not drawing any amps.
I just bought a use pot=up camper for the truck and it has a Refer that draws alot and if I forget it I can draw the truck down, iam getting old.

Well thats good to know . No isolator! I will be unplugging my trailer when I stop for the night.

I put a constant solinoid as a isolator on my old chevy when I had my cabover camper.

I think you answered your own question. Some of us have isolators so we don't have to unplug when we overnight but don't unhook. One less thing to worry about in the morning other than check the brake controller and make sure some idiot didn't unplug you during the night. Also, check the hitch to make sure they didn't release it - - OUCH.

Thanks Fiverbob. I thought that was right but was worried I was missing something. I think I'll skip the isolator for now. It has never caused me any problems doing it the way I do. I've never forgot to unplug from the truck, YET.

I found the wire at the plug ,it is white with red tracer, there is a plug behind the right front wheel liner, there it changes to red.
I cut the red wire by the plug and ran a new wire up to my solinoid.

Baby, you've got more patience than I do. Good man.

Amazing manufacturer can't put an isolator on at the factory. So cheap, yet such a pain to find the wire and install later.
