Thumbs up 2 stroke Oil - Small Review

I was not sure what section of the forums to post this in.

First off I use PowerService Diesel Kleen so I am sure there is an added benefit.

I went to wallyworld and purchased some generic house brand 16oz bottle of non synthetic Low emissions 2 stroke engine oil (the kind you mix wth gasoline).

I then added all 16oz to my fuel tank at 1/4 tank of fuel. I then proceeded to activate the green handle and filled er' up with some High Quality ULSD

There was no hand calculation involved in any of this. Just the trusty ole super highly calibrated and accurate overhead console economy readout. LOL

My before the oil normal 1900 RPM cruising on the highway economy read about 19.5-20.5 depending on whatever it depends on that day.

My after the oil was added 1900 RPM cruising on the highway economy read up to a max of 23.2 mpg.

This was on a 450 mile trip to from Alabama to Atlanta and back.

WOWSERS ! I didn't reset or touch anything. All I did was add it and drive it.

I know that the little overhead console is very inaccurate to say the least, but for it to make a 3mpg difference wow is all I can say.

As I stated before this could be a factor of the PS Diesel Kleen, but I doubt it. I didnt get that kind of mileage increase on PS DK like I did when I added 2 stroke oil.

Oh yeah! I had nothing in my bed and nothing on the ball.

Even driving around the city has gotten an increase but I am not going to go over that.

Thanks
Hope this helps spawn a huge investigation into the benefits of 2 stroke oil for those who may not have read any other topics on this matter.

What is the deal with this? I race 2smoke dirt bikes and didnt know there was any type of debate on using 2smoke oil in your diesel to get better mileage. Please tell?

Anyway, I would think that if this is true, that some of the better 2stroke oil would benefit us more, like MOTUL for one. You can mix it leaner in a 2stroke per gallon than other oils if you want to, but Im a firm believer that its the best oil out and has the best lubrication out. There are others that are debateable like Motrex, royal purple, bel ray, silkoline etx etc..

Anyway, he stated he used some cheapy stuff, just wondering if the better stuff would even benefit us more. Let me know what yall find out.

FYI, in my gas truck, I ran 2smoke gas cause I needed to make it to the station. It eventually clogged up my fuel filter and left me stranded. This could be the case in diesel's too. What do yall thank?

Me too on the lubrication. The jury is still out on MPG increases. Any MPG increase I have seen, I've attributed to break-in so far.

Well then why the need for extra lubrication, diesel is allready pretty good for that, isnt it? Is this something you put in for a better piece of mind and possibly longer engine life?

Just seems like it can and might help clog your fuel filters, especially in high performance fuel systems.

I use Wally's 2 stroke and haven't seen any measurable gain or loss in MPG. The one thing that is very apparent is that the 2 stroke definitely quiets the rattle from the IP. I tried it twice now for 2 tanks in a row of each and it is very significant. So I think the 2 stroke wins out. Has to be better. We also have 2% bio here in Minn so we probably don't really need additives, but..why take a chance??

My biggest concern is that the stuff turns the fuel light blue. I sure hope it doesn't show up on the fuel checks we get here frequently. I keep good records but I sure would hate to have to prove something. I think they are mostly looking for red but blue might be for something else maybe aircraft jet fuel. I don't know. Anybody know??

ULSD has very little lubrication. I've noticed it makes my engine far smoother running with, than without. If it does start to clog the filter, I'll change it - so far, I've seen nothing on my fuel pressure gauge to indicate this, other than the already low OEM pressure.

I have mixed PS and 2 stroke before. I saw a gain in mileage with the PS and 2 stroke. I have seen no drop in mileage with just the 2 stroke. I have been running 2 stroke now for probibally 10k miles and have yet to have it do anything out of the ordinary as far as filters go. I usually add about 14 oz to a tank full. Make sure that any 2 stroke you put in is tcw-3. I do not remember why that was important but i do know that it was.

buying the cheapest is the way to go, not synthetic like Motul or others, the cost is just too high to use synthetics.

I was running 1 quart of 2 stoke, half quart ps per tank of fuel, until the big review on the lubrcity additives test came out, then off to optilubes website and I bought a gallon of their xpd treatment, on my second tank now, I saw how it did in the tests, but can not feel much in the drivers seat to say how it works, have not taken a long enoguh trip to see any mpg difference, the only thing the xpd does not do is quiet the rattle like the 2 stroke does.
